longlive the death penalty

Interesting thought but perhaps you would be so happy to watch your son or daughter be killed in foreign land for a crime they didnt commit and you knew that without any doubt.

The fact still remains that capital punishment has killed innocent people. People in the UK have received posthumous pardons - well that makes it OK for them and the families I'm sure - oh no wait...they're dead!

Legal and law enforcement systems are not perfect in any country. Corruption is rife and people often tortured to confess crimes in the very worst cases. Completely innocent people die thanks to state sanctioned killing.

Putting aside individual cases and the merits of each, capital punishment has no place in modern society. We have alternatives and although not cheaper than simply snuffing out life, when compared to the use of our money by our respective governments (lets pick the "defence" budget of any country as an example - USA 425 BILLION a year) its a small price to pay if it saves one innocent person - especially your innocent son or daughter perhaps?

The best quote on this whole thread.
Why are people on this link feeling sympathy or anything else for this chap when he knew what he was doing and he was feeding other peoples habits...all for his own profit...IF he had got away with it...like hundreds of others are still doing?

Interesting article in this week's Newsweek on the relationship between Singapore's establishment and Burma, a major source of heroin. Of course the influential drug barons who own legitimate front businesses in Singapore will never face the gallows. Nor will their ever be a lynch mob advocating their deaths. This is reserved for just the mules.

I read somewhere (on this forum I think) that the amount of heroin this boy had would have killed 26 of the junkies. What utter bull. On that basis there must be 26 junkies dying every night in Melbourne alone.

I dont mind it..
But Hinduism was preeched for ages.... and I think many religions are born directly or inherited few priciples of it... Janism, Thirthkara (BahooBalee and Mahabalee), Buddha'ism... to name few..

I think there a quite a big difference here.. One is a Trade Law (if Quantas) and other is Civil Law (Brother Nyuven issue)... no one want to overlap that... ;)

My view is that more strict the punishment is more people will be dreadful. If you want to do such stuff do in your Home( like for the Brother nuyen do in Australia and not in Singapore).... again... pros and cons aside.. every pill has a side affect... we know that... And Bitter the pill better it treats... ;)
coming back to the case....
Why the hell Oz Govt dont enfore such law... I feel... lot of teens are getting involved into buggy habit of drinking, smoking and ofcourse drugs.... One side they Oz Govt is crying loud shortage of teens and good skilled people... and equally they are given freedom to spoil their best of life (like Geogre Best)...! thats weared to me... sometime I found it funny, if the govt want to sustain its ecomony it needs youth, good youth, scholar youth... Discpline... where is that... freedom is so much..I remember the days of my school where we had co-ed... where boys had properly combed hair (not colered or pony, tie (not weared like rope), white shirt (in shirt not out), and girls with two pony and well dressed. if you are caught smoking by teacher or parents.. thats the dooms days ( respect)... thats descipline is all about... look at our youngsters... they start smoking even before they get out of bed and start physical activities with other sex even beofer they understand what it mean... what emotions is...
Crappy law... misuse of freedom... Enfore strict law...enfore descipline... penalize people who feel that the road is their home garbage suit...
It works...
:)
Penalty is to teach the bad guys and not make him martyr... its a thoughtful act... Singapore is govt is struggling with negative population... so it know ways to mend it... we dont have to say stop capital punishment... it has worked out the law for its own and not for Aus.. ;)
End of the chapter...

If anyone hasn't seen "the Life of David Gale", it's a very good film which tackles the subject of the death penalty. I highly recommend it

Poor Mom is still getting the media attention... I always wonder she must be suffocating by those so called ass@#$# reporters... Many who are good keeping away from such a sentimental episode...

And I terribly curse Michelle Leslie for the same...

Funny that, when I read that line, the mental images I had was of a bunch of South Londoners, not Aussies! Believe it or not, I hardly hear your average aussie bloke use the C word, if I have to be honest. :)

I was actually thnking similar. Especially in the circles I am in, the most common swear words used are mainly like "bloody'.

I don't necessarily think the C word indicates nationality, but rather vocabulary deficiencies.
