Well, not surprising that they won't commit because until you're actually here, how do they know he'll be available to take the job? People do change their mind about moving interstate/internationally.
I appreciate you're worried but if they told you that Andrew should get work I don't see why they would lie.
Going from two incomes to one is bound to worry you.
It's pointless me saying try not to worry because the whole moving to Oz thingy is stressful but when you get here it's great !

I guess you're right....i'd probably be the same if i was an employer...
thing is i know that it's all going to be worth it once we're there....just seems such a stressful journey getting to where we want to be

It's official - my postman hates me
I've been replacing video's with DVD's....and i think he's finally had enough of carrying and posting all the boxes through my door (have recently replaced around 100 films!). He's just shoved some through the letterbox and walked away tutting and huffing!!! Think maybe i'd best stop ordering them online for a bit!

is he an aluminium welder at all? I know they are in short supply, any welders are.
Hubby just said to add - with the amount of projects starting in Tas. there is just not enough trades people to do the work.

I know it's a sore point with a lot of people - but one of the companies that Andy saw in november did say that the Pulp Mill could generate a lot of work for his trade - alongwith any development of the airport. Also, wasnt there talk of a huge shopping place being built near Hobart - that's the kind of work Andy would really want to get in with....
He doesnt want to do domestic insulation as that's something he's never really done - he's always done Construction Industry based work mainly and has worked overseas in the past....

one good thing is that normally the insulation work is one of the last things to get done on building projects.....so we have time!
thanks Donna...

just looking at some properties for rent on the Island.... came across one in Battery Point - way out of our price range but the views were great - and noticed in one of the photo's that there was a huge yellow and white "bigtop" tent thing in the distance.... is that a recent event? a circus or something????

HI Cathy think you will find the shopping centre is already being built we used to pass it on the way to our mates in Acton Park on the main road, know that building was frozen for a while whilst they reduced the square footage of the site to come into line with the new laws. Looks massive and great that there will be loads more shops!! he he. Regards Corinne

Hi Cathy
Nice to see you are settled nicely in Tas, with your beautiful dogs.
I was interested to read your post as we are still deliberating over whether to bring our Cocker Spaniel. Our concerns are the quarantine period, as she does seem to need a lot of attention!, finding a nice rental which will allow dogs, and where you can take them once in tas (I know the National parks are a no go area)
On the plus side, I think it would help us all to settle when we have picking her up to look forward to, and will certainly encourage me to get out and about more.
We do have some people who are really keen on having her, who already have another Cocker, so I know she would enjoy herself if she stayed here.
Its a hard decision, my head tells me she should stay in the UK, my heart wants to come with us. Hubby is not keen at all on taking her, so I really need to be sure myself or he'll never let me hear the last of it

We brought over Nattie and Edie (www.vizslak.co.uk) and bought Lyla. Kalti was too much to cope with so has gone elsewhere.
To ship my 2 girls cost about 3k then the quarantine on top. We used Overhill and Eastern Creek. Vizslas are notoriously picky with their food but our 2 survived! We have found plenty of places inc beaches in North Tas. There are loads of training things and stuff to do with dogs, you just need to go and look! We are not sure if we are staying here or not (renting for 6 months) but do not regret bringing my girls at all,
Cathy
