Actually it was some Americans at work and a few Asian people that asked me about my accent.... But i've often heard people say some "cockney style" accents can be confused with some Aussie accents... Must be the Pom in the ones they've spoken to!
Hopefully the people that have met me already dont think my Essex accent is too common for Tas!
How long have you been a Northerner in Tas then? i'm glad you say the whole Island is magical
no worries on your Essex accent just don't speak in Spanish...

I have been in Tas since Dec 2004 with 2 short breaks back in the UK.
There is still so much I have yet to see here.
For me Tassie became Paradise long before I visited "Paradise" the village of that name here in the State's North.
By day 3 following my arrival here I knew Tasmania was for me and I love this place.
Off to bed now 12.45 and off to see Exeter show tomorrow all being well.
Cheers Oldgit

Hi guys
Thanks for all the info on schools. I guess we are just going to have until we are actually in Tas before making any firm decisions. I think I'm just worrying about everything at the moment as we are in a holding zone at the moment, waiting for visa, waiting for house to sell - obviously got too much time on my hands so fretting about anything and everything from schools to houses, jobs to spiders!
Have a good weekend

I did exactly the same, was a walking worry machine! There really is nothing to worry about really, it all falls into place, you'll be surprised!
We did some serious off roading today, it pissed down with rain yesterday and today, so conditions were muddy to say the least! Its a lot more exciting off roading here, as you have sheer drops off the mountains to contend with!
So that gets the old blood pumping! Kerry

Not to worry Sam, we went through that too, so know where you're coming from!

I get scared on a Go Kart, don't think I'd be up to much in a 4wd off road

Gig on Fri was good, plenty of over-refreshed locals boogieing to the tunes, back there in 6 weeks I think.

we went last year and it was v hot so we went looking for a beer, heaps of wine stalls, went to the Cascade tent and all they had was fruit juice !! ended up drinking ginger beer (5% proof ) as no beer available, food stalls all good, plenty of stuff to do, only $6 entry fee.

Glad your gig went well!
Is it the same in Tas as here - ie, friday's a more popular night to go out ?
#1042
no, we do 3 brackets of 12 songs, about 3 hours total with 1/2 hour breaks, so roughly 9 pm to 1 am incl. encores.
Nobody goes out on Friday, we all stay in reading about how Kevin Rudd is the best thing for us since sliced bread....

Sounds like your having loads of fun off roading ! just a quick question you'll probably know the answer to. Are the CV's done differently out there, I have got to update Karl's and was wondering if I need to change it ?
Just to update you - we have booked our flights - landing on 16th June in Hobart, having 2 nights stopover in Singapore. So getting VERY excited now.

I have been looking at accommodation for when we get there, where did you stay and could you recommend anywhere? We really want to have about 4 days staying in or near Hobart to recover from the travelling !

How long does it take you to drive to Hobart from where you are ? Also how are you finding the food shopping- would you say its more expensive then UK. We seem to spend a fortune on food (having 3 kids) so are there any cheaper shops like the Aldi / Lidl here ?
Hope you dont mind me asking all these questions ?

Certain things were cheaper - ie, certain meat and some fresh produce, but i found things like bread / cereals / kids yoghurts / milk etc to be quite a bit more (some loafs worked out to nearly £2)... I would imagine it would all work out pretty similar in the end though once you've adjusted to the different products etc....it would just take a little while to get used to doing a "normal" shop. As Kerry once pointed out to me - those 1st initial food shops are huge because you're basically restocking up on all the basics everyone normally has in their cupboards!
Oh, and good news about the flights being booked!

Most places we play shut around 1 or 2 am, some of the clubs in Hobart that have live bands close at 3 or 4 am on the weekend.
