Hi All!
Have made a note of all the days out so we have even more things to look forward to!
We are hoping to bring our dog over with us when we come. Has anyone else already done this? We have all the info about bringing him into Oz but wondered if there was anything specific about Tas that we need to know? I have tried a few searches but can't find anything about Tas.
While i'm asking questions.......... where did you all stay when you first arrived? Any recommendations? We are thinking maybe a holiday rental or cabin type thing for the first few weeks? As there are 5 of us the prices seem to add up quite quickly! Any cheap ideas gratefully received.

Hi all
Quick update from Tas.
So far, so good, we've found a nice to rent in Blackman's Bay, the children started school which went Ok apart from my daughter throwing a wobbly about the uniform (which is pretty awful although I can't tell her that!)
Hubby starts work next week at the University of Tasmania, had another job offer as well which was fantastic to have a choice of jobs.
We have been out and about, visited Bonorong Wildlife Park, went on a fab cruise down to Peppermint Bay, had snowball fights on Mt Wellington, eaten too much!, visited a great winery, been to Mt Field National Park for the day (although we only did the tame bit!) and generally finding our feet here.
Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming, the sun has shone most days even if it is cold, and we are looking forward to our life here.
Back online again now, so will be back soon.

Hi Sam
Have checked the thread a couple of times whilst we´ve been here in Majorca, crikey cant believe how many posts have been done!!!! We have had a busy tassie thread for a change!!!
Hope you´re ok, glad to hear that you´re all settling in ok...
We´re having a great time, although it´s blooming hot, registered 39degrees on the car thermometer earlier whilst we were out. Have just had a car for 6days so we´ve been exploring all the parts of the Island that we´ve never seen on previous trips, in between time on the beach etc with the kids....
Have also been going out to avoid eating so much seeing as we´re at an allinclusive hotel! At least i dont drink if im with the kids, so only a couple of pina colada´s have passed my lips!
Clothes are getting a bit tight though
I think i might need to move to Blackmans bay on one of the big hills to shift some excess weight!!!

We still have 5 more days here, so will be in touch properly when we get back....

Hi Cathy, see you are already away but know you will be logging on to get your fix. Have a lovely time and will catch up when you get back. Will keep all crossed for the house sale to happen once you are back. We chose Colchester in the end and are living one house away from the beach!!! Look out of the windows over the sea, not quite like Tassie but second best till we can get back there next year. x
Really pleased for you.... Boy do you and Zoe like to be kept busy or what?
Just my two are a handful enough!!! Glad you´ve settled in Colchester ok. Are you anywhere near Brightlingsea?
We love it there, before we decided to emigrate we had considered moving that way or more Clacton way ourselves....

Hi Cathy
just seen your post-thanks for the good luck message, we both finished among the prizes in our age categories so we enjoyed a couple of free bottles of Hunter Valley's finest!
Just come back from a weekend in Lonnie at the company's staff conference, we stayed at Pepper's on the waterfront and had a good meal on the Saturday at a place called Fluid. It was bl**dy cold up there though!!
Now back to the coal face, and looking forward to the Adelaide mara at the end of Aug, Sydney mara in the middle of Sept then a trip back to the UK to see the rellies straight afterwards. It'll be interesting to see how it feels being back there after a couple of years here.....

That´s good!Sounds like you had a good weekend away as well. As you´ve probably gathered from other posts we´re in Majorca at the moment for a fortnight (5days to go). Have seen a heck of a lot of cyclists about, they must be up for a challenge all of them cycling up into the mountainous area´s in this heat!

I remembered you were visiting the UK later this year.....will be nice for you to catch up with everyone and vice versa. You´ve had a busy year!!!

I was going to try and answer a few more seperate posts, but i´ve been putting euro coins into this hotel internet thing like nobody´s business what with checking Emails, facebook messages etc etc that i thought i´d just do one general post!!!!
Carina, sounds like you´re having plenty of fun exploring up North!
Teabag, sorry to hear about your Mum, it must be very worrying for you...although i´m sure she will be well looked after..
Possums, have you managed to persuade the OH to let you have that holiday yet!
Kezzabird, saw your message about your Dog on facebook, it did make me laugh!!!!!
Jerzo, i hear the weather´s been hot back home, hope you´re not too tired with looking after all the kids now that the school hols are here! Good luck with the house, fingerscrossed we might arrive in Tas around the same time!!!!
and welcome to all the other newcomers on the thread.... it´s normally pretty quiet without me doing the usual waffling on, so i´ve loved reading some different posts and all the info everyone gives is great. Although i think i´ve soaked up enough info on the Island for now, i´m saving the rest of my brain space for when i actually arrive and am living the experience!!!!
Anyway, i´m going to go up to our room now and cool down (even tho the aircon is pretty crap!).....
Buenos tardes!!!!
take care all

Hi Kay
oh well, at least you have something to look forward to with the trip back to the UK come christmas, and wherever you might end up going on the way back! Shame if you miss out on Bali though!
Me and Andy haven´t felt too great last couple of days, a bit achy & stuff, so we´ve had a couple of extra lazy days here.... Not sure what to do today, just had too big a breakfast (as usual), and need to wait an hour now before deciding whether to hit the beach or the pool!
Only 2 more days left before we travel home on sunday, not sure whether the time´s gone quickly or not

When is the baby due ? before or after Christmas? At least you wont be having the little un in Queen´s Hosp. I had a nightmare having Jared there! Seems like such a longtime ago now though! Jared was born 15th Dec so it was strange having a baby just before Christmas!!!! A lovely present though!
The waitresse´s here keep making a right old fuss of our two, especially Jared who pulls the funniest faces at times, they love him. Eden bless her keeps trying to talk to them in Spanish, which they really love, so she´s saying gracias, hola, como esta, buenos dias etc etc all day long! I think she´ll be sorry to go home. She actually wants to try the kids club this morning at 11am (it´s only for 2 hours) which makes us laugh now seeing as we´ve only two days left!!!

Anyway, catch up properly once back!
take care

Hi Corinne, that´s nice if you´re not too far from Brightlingsea, lovely place to go with the kids if you get a chance and the weather´s nice. Nice play area and bit of beach there...

Hello, just thought I'd mention, we moved here to Launceston in February and my son who was half way through year 2 at the time but only aged 6 was told he would have to go back to the beginning of grade 1. Well he is a bright little thing so I insisted that he be put into grade 2 which they happily did and now he is already doing the grade 3 work. I think it is important that you insist on what is right for your child with the method of schooling slightly different here from the uk in that they sometimes put students up or down a grade according to ability its not too unusual to have a broader age range in a grade. Hope you don't mind me interupting but thought it was important to keep in mind! Good luck Julie
Thanks for yours - that's really helpful to know that your son was allowed to go up a year in school. I'll definitely bear that in mind and it's something to remember depending on what happens between now and us eventually arriving on the Island. Our daughter is also bright and was sectioned into a top group in her class even though it was reception year....and i would hate for her to go backwards in her learning as she is a bit of a sponge for learning new things (the old "why does" - "what does" questions can drive us a bit mad though!!!!

)How are you finding things in Launceston? do you feel settled now that it's been almost 6 months or is everything still feeling very "new" ?

Hi Cathy I am due, 29 Dec, so will have to make sure my legs are crossed on Christmas Day!!! he he. Will have to pop over to Brightlingsea on day to have a look then. Sounds like you are having a great time on your hols. Bummer that its gone so quick, we go on Friday for 10 days to our place in Spain and I cant wait. Have a safe trip back. x
and hope you get more rest and relaxation than me and Andy managed!
our two were non-stop for the whole two weeks!!!
Catch up with you when you get back!
and yes, you'll have to keep those legs crossed - and no eating pineapple or hot curries from Xmas Eve through to New Year!

Hi All, We got back from Majorca earlier today - and there was me hoping to have done all my washing if the weather was nice (no such luck!
)
It's been raining virtually the whole time we've been home.....
We dont have a tumble dryer so it'll all have to wait till tomorrow as i dont want the house looking like a laundry!
Andy's back at work 1st thing tomorrow morning - but i'm not back until wednesday afternoon. Booked the extra couple of days to get the kids settled into a more normal routine what with all the late nights / fizzy drinks, icecreams and sweets Eden has been having - she'll probably still be hyper for a few days yet! She'll be going cold turkey this week as she wont be having any of that stuff now that we're home!
She's actually got a bit of a cold today bless her. We went to the beach on our last day yesterday and we just couldnt get her out of the sea, you know what kids are like, even though their lips might be turning blue and their teeth are chattering they'll still insist on staying in. One day she must have been in the sea for more than 5 hours!!!!
It was very hot though so i'm glad my two wear their sun-protection suits most of the time on the beach, even though the Germans give you funny looks as their kids wear next to nothing! She has got a lovely tan though despite the suit and the factor 50 i smother them in!!!! As for me - i'm the same colour as when i went!!!!
We did have a nice time - although not very relaxing..... i have to remind myself that the days of leisurely lunches / dinners /relaxing sightseeing and lazing around the pool / on the beach are gone for a few more years yet!
Especially with Jared, we have nicknamed him the destroyer as he's into everything and anything - and has a habit of wandering slowly away from you and then breaking into a pretty fast run once you've realised he's off!!!!
Sorry state of affairs when your 18month old son can actually almost out run his Mum! Must get myself fitter!
Anyway, hope everyone has had a really good weekend....
Sounds like all the new arrivals in Tas are really getting stuck into seeing loads of new places and are getting to know one another....
Once we're a bit organised and have had the new estate agent around to re-value / take new pics of the house we'll hopefully try the 2nd attempt at selling and getting our butts over to Tas as well!!!!
take care all!
