Just woke up to the news, totally shocked. He was totally mad but a great animal lover and he will be sadly missed. My heart goes out to his wife and kids. RIP Steve.

I know sometimes he takes Bindi out with him on his trips. The first thing that went through my mind was I hope she wasnt on the boat when this happened.

Ditto, that's exactly what I thought when I first heard. My sympathy goes out to the family and I hope Australia Zoo stays within the family, sch a fantastic place to visit. RIP Steve Irwin

Oh my god how awful.

Was just watching him on telly at the hospital with our wee one yesterday and were talking about visiting the zoo next year and hoping he would be there.

Totally gutted for his wife and kids.

So so sad. Eldest (4yo) and I both shed a tear on hearing this news. What an amazing man. I hope his family take some cold comfort from the fact he died doing what he loved. A huge loss, for Australia, for the world and for his family.

RIP Steve, you will be remembered
