No. In my experience one pays for shopping convenience. The less you shop the more you pay.

Winter uniform - the skirts cost $94 each. Black cotton leggings - $25
Excluding shoes... I spend $10 to $15 on a single warm weather school uniform for my young child ... i'll spend a few extra $$ once winter arrives.

Anyway, I'm a vegetarian and in my opinion both Coles and Safeway's are absolutely useless in this department (as well as the poor range of foods anyway), come on Tesco and Asda we need you here
i was a vegetarian for 9 years and found that Coles sold fruit, veg and legumes. Easy.

But then agin.. i was never one for pre-prepared food.. all fresh produce for me.

However some aussies/residents wont accept that.

Woman in coles yesterday was doing a taste sample of cheeses. Nice cheese but $9 for 100 g Aussie partner says thats bloody expensive when I was in the UK anyway he gives example of some prices blah blah and this aussie broad wouldnt have a bar of it nope he must be wrong and why the hell would australia need 8 supermarkets like the UK er derr!!!

BTW yesterday we were searching for hotels in brisbane CBD and the hotel parking was more than we paid to rent a new travelodge room (advance website booking) in central london
A couple of years ago I got a room in Central London for much cheaper than anything I've paid in Melbourne, Brisbane or even a double room in a YHA in Sydney...

My last gadget purchase when I was there was a Digital Radio with Wi-Fi connectivity. RRP in Australia – $699. I got it for just under $280 imported from the UK.
Bought my wife an 8Gb ipod touch yesterday for $189 at Office Works (price match for Dick Smith who had it at $199). Cheapest I can find it on Kelkoo UK is GBP139.95 ($231). Australian price is the same as US price.

I find that, overall, electrical/electronic prices are similar to the UK.

I never get whilst making these sort of lists why everyone forgets interest rates but then if we start talking interest rates then you have to start talking rent then how much govt support you get i.e family tax a and b, rent assistance.

Sometimes the direct comparisons can't be made over a year but perhaps on a life style over 10/20 years

Following our 2 weeks in Perth last year (I appreciate limited knowledge) we found that Pomtastic's description on prices to be very accurate. However, we were not in a position to check on some of these things (ie cars and services etc) but found food a great deal more expensive and the beer and wine prices were crazy. I laughed at the wine sales (50c off) compared to the 50% off in the UK.
School uniforms appear to be about the same although a mate of mine who has his two kids in pivate school found that UK prices were more expensive because there was more to buy! Private schooling is so much cheaper in Ozz

Our Council tax in the UK is 3 times more expensive than my parents house in Ozz and their local area is far cleaner and respected than ours. Clothing is also far more expensive in Ozz per item but let's face it I wont be wearing as much in Ozz!!

My view is that Australia is far more different than many of us Poms want to believe. If that means finance then accept it as well which I'm sure most of us do.
