Anyway, I'm a vegetarian and in my opinion both Coles and Safeway's are absolutely useless in this department (as well as the poor range of foods anyway), come on Tesco and Asda we need you here
Veggies? Grow your own ... we do even though I think green stuff is a necessary evil

We also avoid the big supermarkets and pay a bit extra to buy fresh stuff locally.

We are one goat away from The Good Life ...

What is this Winter you speak of?

Our boys go to school in shorts, t-shirt & trainers Costs about the same as it did in the UK, but think at current exchange rate we earn far more here than we did in UK.

As for all the other stuff we spend quite a bit more on food here and petrol may well be cheaper but have to travel a long way to get anywhere and need a bigger car here, so is costing about the same per month as it did in the UK.

When did you offer your bodily fluids to a goat to find that one out Perhaps I really don't want to know as seems a tad sick

No I don't agree that the local industries are protected. How on earth did you get that from my post?

In fact, the reverse is true: local industries are massively vulnerable to foreign competition thanks to Australia's many free trade agreements.

Anyway, I'm a vegetarian and in my opinion both Coles and Safeway's are absolutely useless in this department (as well as the poor range of foods anyway), come on Tesco and Asda we need you here
Yes, Australia is in dire need of a supermarket shakeup. We need more foreign investment.

I would swap car servicing to your cheaper list, tradesmen rates, insurance, and dining out (Melbourne).

I would also add day to day costs like parking and public transport. I can get to work for 50 bucks a week - 25 if I leave early.

For us, we're sitting quite comfortably financially. The things we have to have are cheaper, (medical maybe the exception) the things we can choose are more expensive.

The piss-takers for me are older cars, and books. I barely notice the prices of other things and agree with Zulu - it is overall the same.

Wine? You must be kidding!! A exceptional bottle of wine here can be had for $20 and you can get cleanskins for $2 a bottle. Find me a bottle of drinkable wine in the UK for under a quid mate!
Even cheaper and there are other websites:
