Yes we have taken our own lunches in at times, especially when the kids were younger,no different to when we lived in Oz and took our own BBQ stuff to a national park.We have also brought lunches ect in London, but choose carefully where we eat. We're working class folk so Harrods would be out of the equation!

In Adelaide, for me, it would be the River Torrens park next to the shopping district:

Oh no wait a minute I'm getting the rivers mixed up,thats the Murray River is'nt it that in some places is only the size of a creek and people can walk across it,shame about the drought is'nt it?Yeah that area along near the Festie theatre,is'nt that a nortorious hang out for paedo's and gays?Parks in London? Can't actually name them because its not a place we visit very often(I'm a country girl at heart you see!)but yep plenty around when I was there last.I don't take much notice of the names of parks tbh.

Nice to see such a beautiful photo, on a chilly wet day in Brum. Keeps the dream alive. Although I did spend last weekend wondering round a lovely national trust house in the sun, before heading to Stratford upon Avon for beautiful fish and chips by the river. Although at £5.95 each not that cheap, but worth it.

A little challenge for you if you wish:
Google Maps London
Google maps now has street view so you can find a park (or whatever) on the map then see what it looks like from the street.
Your challenge, should you choose to take it, is to find a park in London you think you would like to picnic in. Sort of like geocaching.

Big rains in Qld flooding the Darling so the lower reaches of the Murray is likely to flush in a few months.

I have two vivid memories of having picnics in parks in Adelaide(suburbs)and both horrible memories at that! One was when my daughter was around 6 months of age.I took her in her pram to the local park for a picnic. We were sat on a blanket, when this young guy(looked around 16)rode past on his bike, trousers pulled down to his knees w****** himself?Nice!I was so bloody angry I yelled some abuse at him as he cycled off.The next time was another park, same scenario, some old guy came near us,dropped his trousers and started w****** himself. You would'nt think that type of thing happened in little old Adelaide would you?
I've heard that the River Torrens park was a pickup place for homos in the era when it was punishable by hanging. Not sure these days.
