Bullshit place, Perth. Full of corporate stuffy types, very uptight. If you're thinking of moving here from UK, and you like a bit of nightlife or are are single status over 50, forget it!
I see where you are coming from to an extent. What needs to be remembered is that the over 50s here are expected to make themselves as invisible as possible and remain in their suburbs and be in bed by nine pm, allowing the younger set to try and enjoy themselves on the weekend.lol.

Perth is a city of child raising and as such a lot is geared for the younger folk. Afraid this has got worse over time with the closing of a number of the hotels that used to attract a more mature age range.

Must say I do miss at times the sort of facilities available in London or Continental Europe where it was very easy to go alone to a pub or whatever alone and not look like a duck out of water and at the same time perhaps meet some interestingor at least amusing people.

Here it is more these days, at least in my experience, couples going out to dinner and stating within the group and going home.

That's just the way it is. You could always take up night fishing I suppose.

This is far from rare. We experienced the same at the Elephant & WB in Northbridge, English theme pub about eighteen months ago.

We were on our third pint, three fellows all over 45, when one of the guys stumbled on returning to the table after a visit to the loo.

A woman security officer informed him that he would not be served any further drinks, when we argued the case saying we were only on our third pint and were far from intoxicated she told us all to leave and suggestered that we were trouble makers.

Security stood over us while we had to rapidly finish our pints and be escorted out.
Amazing but true. Never come across such a controlled enviroment before coming here.

Good question which have no answer. I never had an issue in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Darwin, Alice, or even country WA.

Twice here in Perth I have been given water after asking for a pint after some usually very young person serving and female, judged from the look of my eyes that I'd had enough.
Never how I acted I might(which would then be fair enough) add only how I was judged to look.

Now to the internet to find the Melbourne F1 result
That would be the one I go to mostly these days which isn't too often. St George's Day they tend to have live music and celebrate that by having all things English, which can be an ok day.

It really left a sour taste as i have never been asked to leave a bar before in my life and i felt in no way was i doing anything that could be considered even close to rowdy.

Also now remember and this is probably the best of the lot, met up with some old friends in Paddington-Sydney on a sat lunchtime, 4 of us all guys in our mid forties, one of the guys goes up to the bar to get the second round in and is told sorry they feel he has had to much to drink and is being to rowdy this is just after 12 pm, the other guys lived in Sydney and told me it happens all the time.
Yes exactly how I feel when asked to leave after 3 Heinies.

Paddy Mcguires @ the Haymarket coped really well with 500+ pissed up Melbourne Victory supporters chanting inside and outside the pub 5 hours before the game last time I was there. 6 bucks for a pint of Magners went down really well.

Didn't get turned around from one pub in Surrey Hills/Darlinghurst on the mass walk from there to the SFStadium either.

Very true. Night life does tend to be boring in Australia, although the smaller cities far more so naturally enough.

Haven't come to a conclusion with regards to Sydney as have never spent more than two weeks at a time there and rather enjoyed it but I can imagine it has limitations.

The kids behind the bar are only doing what they are told, I guess, but some do follow it a little too latterly. Have noticed all sorts of folk regardless of how limited their power in reality is, appear to take great enjoyment applying it to the max. Very black and white. Must come as a shock to a lot of tourists who may well have been led to expect something a little more laid back.

Maybe I'm uptight, stuffy, dull and boring, but I just don't understand the point of moving 12000 miles away to spend all your time sitting in bars getting shit faced. Maybe if you're 20, but I would have thought that by the time you reach 50 you've grown out of moronic behaviour.
