The Redlands used to be a little insular with the old farming family connections which is why it used to take 50 years to be considered a 'local' .

Its not as bad as it used to be since the Redlands has grown somewhat.

You'll be fine there. Just find something more permanent 9and the neighbour attitudes should be quite different.

It wasnt all that long ago that Brisbane considered the Redlands to be undesirable due to the mosquitoes and any other excuse that could be thought of.

I suppose that the Bicycle Victoria website talks tosh also:

"Meanwhile Beach Rd, Australia's premier cycling training route, carries more than 7,000 cyclists each weekend. Many ride singularly or in groups of up to five or six, although there are also packs that number over 150 riders. Before 10.30am each weekend there are more bicycles than motor vehicles passing Black Rock on Beach Rd."

The thing is, Beach Rd actually covers a considerably longer stretch than from the Elsternwick area.

But the route, and especially Beach Road, is also an important commuter link to the city. Personally I don't give a fig where they are or what they do – there are far more important things to worry about in this world and I've certainly nothing against cyclists - I simply made a light hearted remark that I (personally) was sick of looking at lycra arses when I’d just had my brekkie, and that there are lots of them on Beach Rd – which there are.

I think again it depends on where you go, I think alot of men in UK need a good wash, grow some hair and don't look like thugs and throw those football shirts away....Is it me or are British men so unsexy.... Give me Italian or Spanish men anytime, at least they know how to dress.

Thanks one way of looking at it. Could maybe mean theres far more to moan about than be glad about. Then again could be all the protesting that goes on when someone says something bad about the place. I personally think we are more articulate.
