Re: the official jobs/wages thread...
Guys
Im work as a Sports Development Officer in the UK. Are there similar typed jobs there and how much do they pay?
My wife is a Nurse and has been offered a job in Brisbane. We are hoping to be over shortly after xmas, and she will be the only earner until I get something too. Im a Carpenter and Joiner by trade and also have over 7 years of experience in the Sign Making and Installation industry. So I dont believe I will struggle to find work. But my preferred career would be in the sport & recreation industry.
Just been reading through some of the topics on this site and there seems to be a number of folks struggling or complaining about high living costs, etc.
We are moving to Brisbane for a better quality of life to back in the UK. I was under the impression that cost of living was cheaper and more affordable in OZ??
Would a combined income of $90-100k be realistic and enough to live comfortably on with 9 yr old and 12 yr old kids??

These are National Figures so in some places it will be higher and some places it will be lower - hopefully it will help to give a feeling though.
A combined income of $90-100K with 2 kids should be do-able provided you dont want to live in the most expensive house/ expensive suburb. Be realistic in your expectations and you should have a good lifestyle on $100K pa

Hi all,
hubby is a scientific officer with defra uk has masters and batchelors degrees in microbiology.
Anybody got any ideas about wages. Now settled on QLD and awaiting confirmation on whether I am to be placed in Redcliffe or Caboolture hospital. I have asked for info on scientific laboratory work before and have had very little feedback although all advice and help has been gratefully received. Would really love to hear from anybody in similar work field!
Cheers all, Lou

Hi Donna and good shout.....
Me also Carpenter in Perth and wages for me differ weekly......good week, including a few hours Saturdays....up to $1500.00 , bad week.. no Saturday and minimum hours....$850/950.00.
Hourly rates can differ...know most are on $25/30 per hour and heard talk of some on up to $40 per hour. All say the same though...If you can make up to $1500.00 in a week you are doing well.
Hope this answers a few questions for some.
