That will please a lot of people! I'd say the very highest IT workers in the UK get paid more, but I don't want the stress. I'm happy to earn what is by any standard a good wage - I choose to earn less for the time being - and enjoy the rest of my life too.

I was just wondering what the average wage for a First Class Welder would be in the Perth area. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any of you working as Engineers in SA (Adelaide)?

Cheers,

I agree with your sentiments exactly and putting lifestyle over the nose to the grind stone life ,is a far better way to live .
For constructsion workers WA is great ,but my impression is that australia in general isnt good for IT maybe its because of it geographical position and it doesnt seem to have the finger on the pulse like london .

As Wall & Floor Tilers Deb & I charge between $30-$35 per m2 + GST dependant upon areas tiled and the amount of metres, distance to job etc. Rural areas like ours pay more than metro areas, distances to jobs are much greater though

what area is this for ?? im a wall and floor tiler heading to the mandurah area in approx 6weeks. interested to find out about specialist cutter ie : table cutter with porcelain/travatine/marble cutting blades. are there specialist tooling shops for this equipment. cant seem to find anything on the net. any ideas??

They dont seem to use wet cutters here just grinders for everything and they use Sigma not Rubi.
This is what I've seen in Vic and QLD.

For S.E Qld [Sunshine Coast]
Try these two companies for tiling tools:
Tilers Express
DTA
As SS says most cutting here is done freehand with a turbo blade in a grinder.
Unless the hobs are specified as "to be mitred" we seldom use our wet cut table saw.
I've converted from Rubi to Sigma and have a large 750mm Sigma [ART4B]along with a compact 2G-Technica 250mm for kitchens and bathrooms. Deb refuses to use both opting for the Rubi TS40 so we cart 3 hand cutters and a table saw everywhere. The Sigmas really come into their own on 45 work as they're marked for it, measure once and set the fence your away.

90% of our work is new build the rest is renovation. New build prices are much the same in our location no matter who the builder is. We charge $35 per m2 + GST for wet areas, 34per m2 on main floors [straight lay] $38 per m2 for any 45 deg work. Work on high-set timber floored houses is more expensive as tiles have to be laid on screed [if theres a living area below]. Renovation work is even more costly as most of the reno's involve tiling on old timber VJ stuff and the many layers of paint have to be sanded off first. I've done very little commercial work just a few small industrial units and they were done on the same rates as the new build.
Try a search on the forum as I'm sure there's a couple of tilers gone out that way. Also try Scossie he has a pool company and may know a few rates.
Good luck

We work on mainly refurb holiday apartments and our finish is excellent, you just get used to the grinder and dust, we even mitre our tiles for the hobs with a grinder.
I still have and use my TS30/40/60 (not seen TS450 that cresta mentioned)
and agree with cresta on 45 work were a sigma is easier. I have 3 wet cutters (small/medium and DW-200-LPS) in the garage which I haven't used since being here.
The guy I work for charges between 40-45 on average (put down 17m today).
In VIC I didn't have to screed but in QLD you really do need to. Not sure on perth.

If I can help then pm me.

Hi Steve I'm heading out to the Gold Coast hopefully at the end of september. Just wandering if you guys take on any trainees. I've done some tiling over here before but nothing to heavy and was thinking about really getting into it over in Oz.

Cheers

Andy

thanks steve,

heading to perth and i believe the substrate is generally cement pumped base, so should be straight forward, i was a little concerned from the lack of specialist suppliers but by all accounts there plenty there i believe. should be out there 2/3 months and trying to size weekly wages based on an offer of 60 meters per week from a reputable new house builder in mandurah. i was intending to charge for standard lay for ceramics of 40 p/m does this sound about right ??
