My brother brought a bodhran back with him last time and had no problems with it. I think because it's obvious that the goat skin has been treated before use. They did comment that there were a few hairs still attached to the skin so maybe have a look and trim off any obvious ones. He also brought a few hurleys with him, the lady asked him if they were weapons!! Second, my sister dried my wedding bouquet and made it into a box picture with stills from the wedding etc. I take it these can't come as they weren't freeze dried?? Could I mail it to my brother instead? I really don't want to leave this behind  Tx |
Re: NO-NO's for the container
I read today that refrigeration equipment containing CFC's which are being imported as Personal/Household effects are provided exemption from the Ozone Protection act.
This info is on the FIDI Global Alliance site. Why do people say that fridge freezers cannot be taken ?? |

Re: NO-NO's for the container
Are sea shells ok? they did originate from Oz to begin with and are clean plus they are open one's so nothing lurking inside.
I suppose if the worst comes to the worst I can just get new one's out there. |

Re: NO-NO's for the container
Hi guys!
We are in the possition that we will be moving into a rental here in the UK for 6months, thus will have 80% of our things already packed! So we thought it would be better to employ shippers without the packing service! But after reading a lot of these post am I deluding myself? Will we end up with more hassel and more charges at imigration if we try to do the packing ourselves? MMMMMMMMMM!:confused: Lisa,x |
Re: NO-NO's for the container
Ok so we want to take the old bikes but how clean is clean. There is the wifes cleaning then there is my cleaning (Mans):rofl:
I think I have done a good job but what about the grease and the rubber marks from brakes on the wheels. Do they have to be spotless:confused: |

This makes things a lot easier if customs want to inspect something. Will you be putting stuff in storage? If so, could you not get the shipping company to pack it initially and then store for you? The best thing to do would be to contact some potential shippers to ask their advice. Good luck with the move, hope it goes well. Colin |

I hope you realise That AQIS hammer self packers and will go through every box..........mm;)
We self packed , self shipped and self cleared through customs and AQIS. Not a single box was opened. The AQIS guy looked at our list , which was very detailed , then asked a few questions about where we got wooden items from , then signed off without checking a thing. |

Why do they go through every box for self packers but not if you use a packing company?
We also compiled a highly detailed inventory of each box but when the removal company came to pick them up they just filled out their own 1-page, multi-copy inventory form, very briefly stating what was each box, i.e. BOX 6 Toys, BOX 10 Plates etc etc. Our own inventory only came in use when we were unpacking and looking for stuff. |
