Oh my god... is that what we'll end up like once we've been there a while...?

It was quite hilarious but a bit worrying too! especially the horrid behaviour from some of those awful kids!

The scenary was absolutely gorgeous though wasn't it?

After watching that documentary i am more determined to get organised and get their.

My only downfall is I cant talk my 18 year old into coming. I even got him to watch to convince him Austrailia is the place to be.

He watched and when he saw the other 16 year old unsettled he said there you go say no more!

I'm with you Claire on Lorraine Singleton. She's a lady with guts and if there were ever someone who deserved to stay in Oz, she's it. The builders Mrs needs a good slappin' !!

Being lucky enough (or unlucky) I missed this when they put it on the first time.
When we saw the first one with the Russell’s you new that was not going to work... and when he when back to the UK for a business trip and then shipped his car back..you just knew he was not going back!

But I'm glad they all stayed, it just shows that if you what something bad enough anything is possible!

However it has thrown up a whole new set of problems for us........
I REALLY liked the look of Perth!!!

For those that don't know we had been between Adelaide and Melbourne and went for Melbourne, then Brisbane and Gold Coast were thrown into the mix, but then back to Melbourne (better for Hubby's job). And we were both sat there last night, we looked at each other and said “PERTH! MMMmmmmmm!
So here we go again…………..

Absolutely!!! Lorraine is definately a star for her persistance, good luck to her, as for Mrs Skeggs!!!!! well when we were over there in Nov, apart from seeing the aerobics teacher with a daughter from hell, seeing off someone at the aeroport!! we laughed our socks off at that fact the Aussies aired the show in 1/2 hr show last year! Can you imagine her first day at work after seeing herself slagging off her new home land!
Hope she squirmed (bet she didn't though)

I know how you feel. My daughter is going to be 16 when we go. Actually waiting for her to finish school. After initially being really enthusiastic has now decided she doesn't want to go. I can cope with leaving friends and family but I don't know if I will be able to stick it out if she doesn't come. Am keeping my fingers crossed though.

Does anybody remember the family that were on the show, I think they went to Perth. A man whose wife had sadly died. He went with his teenage daughter and younger son. I would really like to know how they are getting on. The Dad tried really hard and was doing a really good job from what I can remember. Son had a few problems adjusting though, daughter loved it. Am intrigued who the man with the mullet haircut is that people keep referring to. Don't remember him!

I introduced 'mullet man' to the thread.... so I ought to explain.

There was a melissa porter + that bald bloke with fake tan programme - get a new life, 1 hour on a family that were emigrating to Brisbane. Its a good show ..

The hubby was a funny bloke, electrician, and had cultivated a mullett haircut out of respect for Jo Mangle from Neighbours. He even rented a 'ute' when he got to brissie airport "because jo had one".

They had two kids, v.small about 3/4 , the wife was a fitness instructor. They did the programme, showed a bit of brisbane including some of South Bank, showed him getting work / electrician creditation etc. It was quite fun. They enjoyed it , and stayed at the end.

I think this was the last series or series -1 . This thing that was on last night was 1.5yrs old. and a whole host of families, there were at least 2 more, a welsh family who post on here sometimes and another I think whjo I remember bought thier own house and were having a pool laid with two older sons, dad was an air-con engineer and so was son #'1. There were hours of these weekly proggies - they're on SKY weekly , they used ot be on daily etc... They were on tongight somewhere earound channel 127 at about 6 pm and repeated at 7pm so watch out for them - tehy show a good slice of what life is like for these families. Obviously its edited to show the problems but hey-ho.

I think the reason that the great lady from Blackpool got to stay was she was married to the Aussie husband and domestic violence was involved - so (quite rightly) the Aussie Govt decide NOT to kick her out of the country just because her relationship breaks up for violence. That was the specific reason - Im only quoting what was on the programme so hope this doesnt cause anybody offence.

Whilst we're on the subject - Im not sure its appropriate to comment about Esme who is a child , If anyone commented about our children we'd go loopy so perhaps we (as adults) could drop the discussions in that respect. Chidlren cant' defend themselves so shouldnt be the subject of an open forum.

I take on board what has been said about commenting on children on here but if when I have children they behave like she did I would be disgusted. She was simply a brat. Respect for elders costs nothing as does respect for everyone in fact.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong here - are we all talking about 2 completly different TV Series...?

1. "A New Life Down Under" - that is the one that the (repeated) update was for the other night

2. "Get a New Life" - that was the one with Mullet-man & the Tasmanian Family

Is Get a New Life the one where the visas, flights and housing are pre-arranged and the people who move have two months to decide whether they want to stay? Having thought about it, Mullet man was on that programme.
