This is another furphy that the climate doomsayers have probably over estimated to a massive degree. Floating Ice wont make a difference as it's already displaced. Which negates all of the North Poles Ice. 4/5ths of the Antartic Ice is below sea level and would mostly turn into land borded lakes.... which leaves Greenland and Glaciers... about 10pct of the Worlds Ice Deposits. Or if 100 pct of the worlds Ice melts, only 15 pct would end up in the Oceans. The Vast Majority would be lakes below current sea levels, in Antartica..

OMG!! I can see the clamour for everyone wanting to send their kids to private schools right now

I think these results grossly unfair as a public school lets any child stay until year 12, weather or not they are going to get a good enter, or just a year 12 pass. Private schools just ask the said pupils to leave, therefore they get "Cream of the crop" pupils. Also the places where public schools have scored highly, places like glen waverley have a very high % of Asian students, who are more often than not, extremely high achievers....and its not hard to work out that some of those lower down the table have some social economic problem areas...

My sons school doesnt even get mentioned on there...maybe because its only in its first year as a stand alone school. That said it is imho a fantastic school. It is VERY multicultural, and the prospectus (when doing year 11 and 12) is the among biggest in Victoria. My son has aspergers and the help and support they have shown him in his first year has brough him on in massive leaps and bounds and I have almost weekly contact with the school. That said he probably wont be able to cope with year 12, but wants to stay and do it anyway, the school will support him in this, at their detrement with these stupid tables. But is it a good school? In my opionion its amazing with commited, helpful staff and my son is happy there and doing all of the work expected of him in year 7.

My daughters school is there, but last years year 12 enters WERE classed as "disapointing" This is being tackled head on this year by removing the "home Study times" (read sleep fests!) allocated to yrs 11 and 12 and making them go to school and do more lessons. If they miss a certain amount, in year 12, they will, for the first time!, be asked to leave...Whilst this is a push to get the results up, I think it could be detrimental to those kids on the border line of making something of their lives or going off the rails? Maybe I'm not seeing it from the right angle? who knows...

We currently only have a 2 year old and a -2month old, so a fair way off yet from having to learn the ins and outs of the Aussie school system !

On a more serious note, isn't it the same in most developed countries? The rich are usually more likely to be better educated, which in turns means their kids will be exposed to better educational opportunities. If you can afford to pay for the best education, of course you'll get the best results overall. And like Hevs said, those schools probably have no qualms sending students away if they don't perform.

IMHO, success in school is mostly down to the individual student, with help from family and support from good teachers. And as good teachers probably get better pay in private schools, again that's where you find the best education...

I have never really considered sending my sons to a private school here (they're still very young, I might change my mind yet ) as both OH and I went to government schools, him in the UK, me in France and I just can't justify the cost when I believe we are educated enough as parents to help and support our kids and to pick up on any problems with their education. However, if my sons were bright enough to get a scholarship to one of those top schools, I wouldn't stop them from going.

Alternatively, I would certainly try and give them a similar opportunity to the one I was given by my parents, and support them financially if they chose and were chosen to go to something like a United World College - unashamed plug for a movement I strongly believe in, and no, it's NOT a sect . I went to the one in the US on a half scholarship and will be forever grateful to my parents for the opportunity. So if my kids express an interest in something different and challenging, I will help them to the best of my abilities. But they'll have to work for it and be motivated and passionate about it!

Better start prepping DUP, I heard its not easy to a good group for your child at the kinder. I heard some councils in VIC are so overbooked that you need to book in your children to kinder when you become pregnant

30k per annum for a child at private school. Are you serious? And how do those seemingly rip-off institutions justify this cost to us.
