You say things that people probably already know, but it doesn't stop you "spinning" as you say, your version of things does it ?
Why don't you like figures being quoted ?
And actually, if you look back on previous polls of what MOST new migrants are earning here, these figures I am quoting are actually very low.
eg
2004 - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248662
55.88% had a Main wage over $1,250 pw ($65,000 pa)
2004 - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203435
62.26% earned over $50k
The average Australian wage according to the ABS, in 2004, was $39,135
Most migrants on here, in 2004, appeared to be earning well over the average.

Thousands of school kids with part time incomes are in that lower group, along with many more part timers of all ages.
There are a hell of a lot of part time earners in this country, helping to make up the half that earn less than the median.

Actually half earn over the median, and half under it

Because people complain when I have used the average, saying that the median is more a more accurate figure.
What are the
rolleyes for ?The average gets distorted by the very high paid people whereas the median doesn't.
eg: 11 people: 6 or $40k, 4 on $50k, and 1 on $200k = Average $58k
But the median would be shown as $40k.
Why do you think it is best to show a higher average figure ?

I wonder who is included in the median calculations....
In our household there's me who is at home with the kids (by choice) and then my husband who earns far over the median and average. Of course his income is counted but would mine be? If it is then all those stay at home moms would have to bring down the median and averages to some degree. That would definitely distort the median (and the averages for that matter).
