Re: living in perth
There are crime stats published in the local newspaper (burglaries and car break ins) so you can track an area if you so wish.
IMHO maybe there are loads of opportunistic break-ins as the houses aren't that secure and you might have a window open, then forget to close it when you go out. While you can't stop a professional burglar easily, you could improve security and deter some of the petty thieves just by installing better security screens and doors. Our house in England was like a fortress in comparison to our rental, but it was really just your standard double glazing and doors with 3 dead locks. |

Thats what I always suspected about Perth, the isolation would eventually get to me. Thats without the aspect that Renth has put on the Place. BTW, I think Its great, that someone using their hands and skills to earn money should earn more than someone pushing a pen, or Keyboard. I never felt that way In England, as i was a city worker. But once I came here and realised what bullshit that City life was, and how much re relied on tradesmen, that I realised, that aussies, had the Pay Structure, and the way it's Distrbuted correct. More power to you, even if you are a Mackem ;) |

Such advice is always going to be subjective: not all of us experience things, places, people in the same way. In anycase I tell it how I see it, and I guess thats what a forum is about. Helps people see different sides of things. I see some people post a lot about crime, and the media here beat it up, but I have never seen or been victim to crime the whole time I have been in australia, so there ya go. I seen a lot more of it in NZ. |

And im looking to emigtrate to Perth and i was expecting an even safer and less crime place :o am i wrong?? im getting a little worried.
I know some posts say you get crime everywhere, but no you dont, a lot of areas are crime free, where i live theres no gangs, drugs, car crime, anything. IM not saying other places in NEath arent cuz i know there are. I guess all i want is to have this crime free feeling in Perth, or lat least where i live in Perth. Can i?? :scared: It is though as Renth said, "the burglary capital of the country", but I have never been burgled here and I'm sure most haven't either. If your place is genuinely crime free, then think I might head to your part of Wales. So yes there's crime here, but Soweto or Jo'burg it ain't |

The Police found out who did it but couldn`t (or didn`t want to) do anymore, as it was Aboriginal kids. |

For me, coming from Leeds where the gangland shootings and drug turfwars were commonplace occurences coming to "rough old Rockingham" has been a delightful change. Again personal perception!!

Perth is going down hill fast according to the folk who've lived here a long time though. Are you staying, does the good outweigh the bad? You live in a nice part of Perth and have a good job, is it just the crime thats gets to you or is it something else? :) |

Helps people see different sides of things. You're far to generalising for my liking, why don't you be a bit more specific with your insults!! Stormz, actually, I'm looking for a house at them moment in Thornlie area, and Beckenham is one of the more 'worse' area's, falling as far as I can see into the same category as Gosnells, Maddington, Kenwick, Kelmscott. For most of the expats on this forum, these suburbs are last on the list. I've looked into them, because we can't afford much more, but Thornlie is still coming out quite a bit better(except Maddington side of Thornlie). We will be able to get a reasonable sized 3x1 there for around 200,000. Usually the houses are quite small, but the blocks are often 700/600/900 sqm. And I'm just looking really carefully at the streets, and the neighbours(it's funny the difference in gardens and cars etc in each area(each suburb is already to generalising for me) And Stormz, would you please stop using race to identify criminals, it's not only aboriginal kids committing crimes(the riots in High Wycombe and Ocean Reef etc etc were all 'white' kids), and I don't see the point of mentioning it every time, what's the point?! TonyClark: no, Perth is certainly not crime free, and you'll find it hard to find such a place anywhere in the world, except maybe for some small country towns where everyone knows each other. And then still I doubt it's crime free entirely. But Perth's not a hellhole either, usually if you just take the right 'precautions' or whatever, and don't go into the wrong areas in the middle of the night, you should be fine. Though please note I said usually. |

Though please note I said usually. - I think Kiwichild was clear in saying `in her experience`.... where`s the insult there? - I`m surprised that you think Beckenham is now in the same league as Gosnells and Kenwick (another 2 suburbs I`ve lived in). I found Beckenham to be MUCH better, though it was 10 years ago, and alot can change in 10 years. The last time we were there for a couple of months was in December 2000. It`s interesting what you say, and hopefully you`ll keep us updated on your thoughts reegarding the area`s you and Pascal like/dislike. We`ll be looking for a house to buy in a year so your thoughts would be useful. - As for Aboriginals causing crime.. I was referring to specific incidents, and it was a fact. Of course crime is committed by all races/cultures/thong-wearers (that`s underwear not footwear btw). I`m sorry if I`m so factual, but it is a fact (in my and other`s expreience) that most of the petty crime in Perth is committed by Aboriginals. Want some more facts? White people generally don`t have as much natural rythym as Black people. Black People generally have more problems with their hair than other races. Blacks are generally much better at the more physical sports than other races. Muslims are generally more insular than any other religion. I don`t deal in racism. I deal in experience, knowledge and facts. I couldn`t care less what religion/colour/fashion someone is, I base my generalisation on experience. I base my generalisation that Muslims don`t respect women on experience. I have friends of every creed and colour, but this isn`t a PC competition. There are black/white/brown people I like, and black/white/brown people I don`t. So please stop harping on at me as if I`m a racist, and stick to the facts. |
Re: where in perth??
Hi Ya, Thanks so much for your reply is was really helpful, ive been reading through some of your other comments and your so funny! cant stop laughing at my computer screen. Anyway, in my firt post that should have said "my husband would prefer the coast" not cost oooppps.
Anyway I would value your thoughts on Joondalup and sorrounding areas such as Kinross, ocean reef..this sounds nice as near the coast and near a city which would pretty much cover everyones needs. Also Fremantle, Hamilton Hill sounds nice but I may be looking at really expensive areas I dont know! my Aunt lives in Warnbro. My husband would be happy never to speak to a human again..hes very quiet, my eldest wants to study public relations at uni, my 16 year old wants lots to do and lots of boys and my 4 year old thinks Australia is the other side of london! Regards renting, it would have to be furnished, dont mind it being small as we are just up and coming and selling a few bits here but wont have alot of money, but have enough for deposit on a place...thanks alot for your reply, Dawn |
