Brands like Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic manufacture their own screens.
OLCD? Don't you mean OLED? Samsung and Sony have both been developing the technology.

The 50" is the smallest one. Apparently, for 3D telly, you need a really BIG screen because you lose the effect with smaller screens. Also, apparently, for 3D you need to sit close to the TV so that the picture extends to the edge of your peripheral vision.

They did a trial not too long ago, think it was the Arsenal v Man utd match. I don't think that the TV they used was particularly large, but even if it was, most viewers were a considerable distance from the screen...
The feedback from this trial session must have been fairly positive if this rollout is to proceed... implying perhaps that you don't need to be sitting close to a giant screen to get the benefits.
(no doubt it will be far better if you are close to a big screen).

Highly polished black; very nice. All other colours are fashion fads for tellys.

read an article this morning saying that Sky will be rolling out 15,000 3DTVs across pubs in the UK.

In all honesty, who on earth will wear 3D glasses down the pub?

In post #2 I stated that Plasma/LCD choice comes down to personal choice only - and 50 odd posts on the subject show this to be true.
I think there is no difference between the very latest plasma and LCD TVs - and a stroll through JB Hifi after work yesterday confirms this.
Go with what you like - all the rest is bullshit.

You have to realise that most of the TV's in JB HIFI are not set up and displayed properly. The people that work there don't know what they are doing or how to set the TVs up. If you have a properly set up Pioneer plasma and watched it side by side with any other top of the range TV, the difference in picture quality is remarkable.
If you can't tell the difference then you are probably better off with some cheap shit.

You're obviously not a videophile so for you, you are right, there is no difference. It's all about which one will look best in the lounge room.

Having just re-read Amazulu's post and my response to it, I don't think it was patronising at all.

The last line of my post that you quoted is all that needs to be known on this topic.

Let's be honest, they don't look any more like dicks than someone wearing sunglasses in a bar.
15,000 TVs, and many more glasses, means its going to be a wide scale rollout.
