Errr. Maybe I should have said 'new' freshly arrived expats. I'll end up as a holiday destination otherwise. Oh did I mention I charge $90 a night B&B?

AND, I thought you or your hubbie was Aussie or part Aussie? Not that it should effect my offer in anyway.....

Actually I could start up a B&B, I quite fancy cooking good old English breakfasts!

You've convinced me after a hard think....if anyone does want a holiday then it's $60 a night for a couple, No kids I'm affraid as I dont have the room. Oh and bring ear plugs because apparently my whinging can make your ears bleed.

Better go and check with the missus now to see if I'm actually allowed to offer out our room!!

With your luck the house will collapse from termite infestation while your B&B guests are there, you'll get sued for millions and be forced to live in OZ for ever as you will no longer be able to afford the flight back.

Cheers

Thats great Sue, looking good.
Just got in from work 12 hour shift, working at the local kids home.
Read through this, I am no martyr, I help people come over, and i have helped people with work. I dont get paid for it. I just remember how hard it was for me.
I get to know these people pretty well before they come.
And usually arrange a get together so they can meet others in similar circumstances, same aged kids, and parents.
And they make friends themselves. I am just there for support, and to meet for coffee now and then, and some have become good friends.
And sometimes a shoulder to cry on.
And i do get great satisfaction from this, and i know there are lots of others that do this. There are lots of caring people on here.
Good night god bless, im knackered.

Go Bananas, Bordy, Dagboys, Soapy, Scissors, Moneypen20......people who in my eyes are top drawer material have all had bad experiences that I know about. I'm sure there are others I do not know about too. You really think this calibre of people do it for the reasons you say ? No ****ing way.

When we arrived we got next to no help so learnt everything the hard way. No problem with that but we thought it would be good to help others. To make it easier for them. We've helped 7 expats that have come here so far of which 4 have shat upon us. What do I mean by that ? Just a word of thanks is all. Is that really too much to ask for ? It's basic common decency is what it is. Actually some are a little more involved than that but it is not for the ears of this or any other forum.

After the last occassion I decided to jack in expats but I got an email from someone who pulled me round. "don't tar everyone with the same brush" was the basic message and of course it's oh so true. I also got an email from someone who said just think of the money as they thought we were running a business. Erm no, it's just something we do to help people.

We do have faith in people and no they are not all the same. We are still helping several people who are heading this way in the future and are pleased to do so.

Martyrs, power, accolades.....WTF  Where did you dig up all that shite ?
Totally ****ing insulting is what that is.

Sheesh.......put Mr.Hyde away please.

Wow Bix goes on a rant!!! :p Are you copying me?

Seriously, I think its a Karma/Zen type thing. Mrs JTL can't wait to help people out, and it always works out well. Me, on the other hand, I'm very suspicious of people. Especially internet people, and when I do help people I inevitably get shat on. This of course just reinforces our attitudes. Hence Mrs JTL is the most helpful person you'll ever meet, and I'll eye you up suspiciously, trying to figure out what your game is:p

Now either my judgement sucks or Mrs JTL just brings on the nice people. I swear if she got a nigerian 419 letter , they actually WOULD deposit $10 million in her account and not steal all her money. But I send Mr Winston Abacha $1000 a week, and what have I got back yet?

So in summary, only trust people who your wife trusts...

Bix and JTL

i know where your coming from,i take people at face value and treat them how id like to be treated myself, but it hasnt always worked out like that  i guess you can be to helpful and to trusting, but if thats the way you are, thats the way you are,i guess in inviting people you dont really know into your home you are leaving yourself wide open to be taken advantage of,but i do still have faith in people even though ive had a few bad experiences, and i do believe in karma :D what goes around comes around ;)

Re: helping each other

:D Hi guys,

I just wanted to say a wee word oh thanks to all the expats....I truly think that without this site (and a return ticket and my mum in the UK) that I would've went back to the UK by now. People have been very kind offering to talk, phones numbers (I'm feeling up to talking without crying so will be in touch soon!) and generally being helpful. If the expats hadn't meet yesterday then I wouldn't be feeling so positive today. I know it's not all down to that etc but people can be kind (and cruel) but for now I'll stick with the kind ones.....

Cheers to you all......and keep your phone lines open :D

Gotta agree here a bit  . It does all sound great in principle, but i would be very, very, wary, protecting myself and family before jumping in here with both feet.

Remember , there are some real loons who use this forum

A meet is one thing, but going further than that, I would ber very, very scepticle about it.

Mind you can't see many people wanting my help, not many emigrating to Scotland, lol

However, I am willing to take the risk when Vash visits Scotland ;) oh, and as I've said before Bix, you and any of your family are more than welcome ;)
Just shows you though, i said i wouldn't do it, and now am offering.

Can I just add, sorry if i've missed the point a wee bit, but i;ve just skimmed the thread, its a long one
