Well, I shall put my name on the list when I get there, though may Heaven protect those who might end up at ours :D I very much like furry people and small people, so I will take in maw, paw the weans and the dugs/cats/whatever :p I think this is a cracking idea, and even though there might well be the occasional time when someone takes the rip, on the whole, I have always found the majority of people to be decent and worth the effort. And whilst on the subject, a huge thankyou to Mr & Mrs Bix and to Arkon for lots of information and advice, their time and effort very much appreciated. :) and also to all those other numerous people who post helpful info on this site.

I think thats the thing really - if people take advantage of the good will of others then other possible hosts need to be warned. And of course everyone needs to be careful - don't just open your doors to a family about whom you know absolutely nothing - most people have a little warning when they are emigrating! Nothing to stop contact being made well in advance, phone numbers swapped and long chats had. Phone numbers and email addresses are up to the parties involved - they can't be posted on the open forum, and if they are we will remove them.
If everyone is sensible about this it will work. Not everyone has a home or a lifestyle or even a character that fits with offering accommodation - I know that we don't - but there is nothing to stop the helping hand being extended to people staying in hotels or rentals. If you are unsure about having strangers in your home, thats fine, there are other ways of helping newbies, including going to meet- ups. :)

thats right, and when i started this, i should have made it clear.
Yes we have put some expats up, but i have been in regular contact for 6-12 months, Or i have already met them on a reccie trip.
If it was someone i did not know too well, i would still help in any way i can, but i would recommend a good motel, or hotel.
And yes, i agree about naming and shaming, anyone that takes advantage of our hospitality, should be named and shamed.

We are moving to WA and the thing that we would appreciate more than getting a roof is to have someone to introduce us to the locals, help us find somewhere to stay for first couple of weeks, youth hostels are fine for us. Once we move we will be happy to help others expecially with these necessary things. I would not want to stay with strangers nor them stay with me.
