My hubby got one on the second day after we arrived
- we were driving along the Anzac Highway in Adelaide (3 lanes) he had just asked me what the limit was - said don't know but it is a highway so must be 70! Got pulled over- hefty fine. One day I got a ticket in the morning and he got one on the way home !
We can laugh now - but over $400 in one day was a shocker. He moans but I say YOU SHOULDN'T BE SPEEDING !!

120 (or 118 / 119) in rush hour (behind someone!) on the highway you can get away with, but in an ideal world you'll be sandwiched in the middle of one in front, and one behind!
Ideal world! ...

Yes,got one just north of Taree,I think, only doing 122 in 110 zone and we were only on a reccy.I knew it was strict in Oz but not that strict,I've passed police in UK doing 80 plus,so after that on went the cruise control.

Been here Eleven months and got twelve points, everytime doing between 13 and 20k over the limit. My first one was within three months of being here and I have steadily gained another just under every three months therafter.
Kids enjoyed the first one, all the flashing lights dad being breathalysed etc.
I am now on a good behaviour licence, which lasts for twelve months and you only have two penalty points to lose.
As we speak I am checking the train timetables

I used to flash cars coming towards me to make them believe there was a speed trap ahead.
If I was driving through a school zone and a car came up close behind me, I would slow down even more and keep at that speed even after we'd left the school zone. The times I was under cut whilst sticking to the limit was unreal. Nothing pee'd me off more than drivers who ignored the school zone limits.

A concept I support but it does raise some interesting questions when fighting fires.

We have just had notice they are lowering the speed limit on one of the dual carriageways past our suburb from 80 to 70. A dual carriageway that has no houses at the side of it and it had a 40 mph limit, pathetic.

I do wonder whether people do the conversions right. The urban speed limits here (in Vic at least) are faster (60kph = 37 mph, 50 kph = 31 mph) but people complain about the lower limits. Even the UK limits that are faster (out of town motorway) are only 1.5 mph faster. Is this just because people tend to speed in the UK or is it the width of the road (i.e. multi-lane road, it must have a faster limit)?

It does sound a bit slow. Has it got a lot of junctions or something?
