I've not had one and been here for 36 years (I've been lucky
...as I find it difficult sticking to the 50kmh.)
During my first week in Oz I did get cautioned for 'jay walking'..I didn't know what the heck he was on about
...I do now!

Been here 11 years and my licence and conscience is clean.
OH on the other hand was pulled over at 7.30am one Sunday on the way to our sons cricket match doing 77 on a stretch of the road which changes suddenly from 80 down to 70. We'd been here 3 months. People who drive on Marmion Avenue here will know where I mean, just over the brow by Ocean Reef.
Then last November unbeknown to him, he was clocked doing 72 in a 60 zone in his work van. Only got the fine and photo through in February.
We've both been pulled over by a 'booze bus' on afew occasions, morning and night time, but we never drink and drive.

Got our first and only speeding ticket ever within 2 weeks of arriving in Australia.
I also got done when the police were heavily policing a stop line. Apparently, I didn't stop and at worst rolled over it at 5kph. Ridiculous! I now understand why people accuse the police of revenue raising through traffic fines.

Got a 1 month ban within 6 days of being here, copper didnt want to know or care that I had only just landed and didnt know that in Victoria if you cant see a speed sign its 50, I now keep my eyes glued to the speedo, bugger the road, and by the amount of accidents I see every single day thats what most Australians must do

I totally agree with the speeding fines, wherever they are, but surely they could send the tickets out quicker? Hubbie and I share a car, even a week later we probably wouldn't know who had been driving (well to get a ticket it would be hubbie, but you get my point). Do they send a picture?

2 years and got nailed by a newly installed camera about 6 weeks ago...
One of those zones that drops to 40 during school term time and I was doing 52 and obviously completely oblivious...

Lost my licence after 3 speeding tickets and a red-light within 18 months of arriving. (and then had to driver VERY carefully for three months until I got my licence back
)
In the 9 years since however, I've been clean - just took a me little while to 'adjust' to the slow pace of Australian roads!!
