Asthmatics and those with breathing problems take it easy and seal up your house. Traffic was getting messy at 7 this morning. Tunnels are full of the dust.
Visibility is about 500m to a 1km. North Sydney looks very eery from up here.

Thanks, Poll.
Yeah I know, it's just...well I don't know what's the usual form on these things! I don't want to wimp out and find all my colleagues have struggled in from the sticks, when I'm only ten minutes from work.
I'm getting ready, The Geek can drive me to the station and I should be ok from there.
You're right it's not as red now but it's still thick. One of my cats has had a coughing fit and we haven't even opened a door.
SMH has some good photos.

We had it pretty much all day yesterday - it was very weird. Looks like it is playing havoc with flights arriving and departing as well in Sydney

Wow ...look at the colour and dust in Sydney.....and most of NSW.....and earthquakes in melbourne ......country of contrasts thats for sure.....

I remember the one we had in Melbourne about 18 months ago - awesome but not nice for those with chest problems.
My OH is in Sydney city this morning and he said it's incredible - all the alarms are going off and it was hard work just taking a short walk from the hotel to the office.
I'm just hoping it will clear during the day and he can get home tonight!
Hope everyone up there is okay!
KK
p.s. Seasider - hope your cat is okay now.

p.s. forgot to say we had another earthquake down here in Mellie last night - not far from where we live but I was at an aerobics class and never felt it!
What is going on in this country......! It's almost biblical - anyone for a locust?

Oh my thread has merged!
Just returned from school run (7.30am) in the Hills area. Traffic is fine but slow and many drivers/ pedestrians had flu masks on and all cars have a thick film of orange dust on them. Uluru has come to Sydney. We listened to the warning on the radio and they are doing a good job of updating the situation for travellers.
Home to survey the damage. Thick red dust everywhere which reminds me of our trips to The Red Center! The pool has a thick layer of red on it, likewise everything in garden is a pale shade of red and the wind is high.
Surreal .
