But then it is hardly about you is it? Anyway the right is doing a decent job at subverting the system with little help from outside.

Indeedy

And despite that you see the left/socialist/other assorted wankers/losers squealling and bitching as the right tries to end the entitlement culture that is costing the country too much - 'why me?' they wail

I don't think that's correct and it's a bit off topic. I think you'll find the discontent coming from this budget is from people who think outside their own circumstances. All very well to want to get your money's worth from your tax but you don't live on a man made island populated with billionaires and are served their coffee by imported monkeys. You need the lower paid people to provide services.

Legally you have no responsibility to help someone. Morally, I believe we all do. Legally Australia has to do very little for asylum seekers but there was a promise made to handle a certain amount of them. The issue I see we have here is the obvious lack of care this government has to not only boat people but all asylum seekers. Every few weeks we seem to hear about more plans to reduce aid or rights for people seeking asylum. They tell us thy want to end the deaths at sea or they want to address a budget emergency first. What they really want is to not deal with it. I find it disgusting. If you had a threat on your life that gave you a 50/50 chance of survival, who you not look for support? That's something that these asylum seekers often can't get in their home country.

How exactly is this going to be measured anyway? Anything lower than a C+ and your off home?

Basically what I believe:
We should not let any boat arrivals into Australia - not one
Only people coimg via the UNHCR should be allowed in and this number should be increased
Granting of PR should be on condition of learning English and successful integration (multiculturism has not worked and is left-wing/anti-west social engineering)

There probably is no immediate budget emergency but the way we are going there will be soon if we do nothing

On welfare we should only be helping the most needy in our society (probably about 20% of the current number) but then we help them properly - not half-arsed like it is now

If you're able to take yourself out of the situation and read that with an objective and pragmatic mind I doubt you could come to any other conclusion that that statement is nothing more than asinine, or at the very least obtuse. You're talking about peoples lives and futures here, where the hell does fair ever come into it. Oh, that's not cricket, you must line up in an orderly fashion and wait patiently for your scrap of bread...

Honestly if you value what others think of you and you're a person that thinks this don't say it out loud, you lose all credibility. It's akin to the KKK when they started spouting that phrase "We don't hate coloured people... we just love our race more."

I've heard that and similar statements everywhere where I've lived and I honestly can't see how anyone can make such a statement and actually believe it. At least not unless they're stupid

I'd say the wankers of entitlement are from the right of the political spectrum, if we must speak in the somewhat dated terms of left and right.
It should be clear to all both the main parties be it in Australia or UK could hardly be described as left in any sense of the original meaning of the term.

Meanwhile what was the Liberal Party has swung far right representing corporate and business entitlements and middle class welfare.
It would appear the social contract with society is being discarded with haste.

Peoples futures??????? Sorry, asylum seeking is about seeking refuge from life threatening situations in your home country. Looking after peoples futures is not the responsibility of those sponsoring it. Economic migration is a different thing to asylum seeking. If economic migration is your agenda, then you won't get much support seeking asylum. On the other hand, if you have a life threatening situation in your home country, then asylum is the avenue.

So what would be your solution? Encourage the rickety boats to keep coming? What happens every month when 150 people drown?

A bit of a one track pony I'm afraid. Not only can't see that it was the arrogance of one of the most right wing regimes in history, that led to an alternative back lash which they would never win, which led in turn to the loss of a nation in their eyes, but never learn and continue to peddle their right wing totally discredited ideology here.

I doubt if anything beyond personal ego is of concern and human rights is regarded as another communist plot.

We've been down this long, winding road before. A sensible policy that includes the neighbourhood, conducted in a safe and reasonable fashion.
