Same applies to chicken! I bought some from the deli counter that was on special for $1.49 kilo. It was $4.99 pre-packed in the fridges.
Wendy this must be chicken meat for sandwiches? It can't be chicken breast or I am moving to your suburb!!!

My local butcher is not much more cheaper than the Woolies, $13 to $14 depending on weight purchased. We try not to use Woolies for meat unless butcher is closed.

Don't think we'd see $8/kl fillets anywhere around here unless it was frozen, it's $31/kl in the organic butchers in Paddington!

see, there are advantages to living in Adelaide no matter what anyone says Stuff are cheaper here compared to what everyone else is putting!

I just simply wouldn't pay that for chicken. I'd buy something else first!

My shopping bills are never more than $700 a month (4 weeks) for 3 adults and a child. Mostly because I will buy what's on special, and freeze it if needs be.

I am bad at eating packed lunches though, so probably spend too much on takeaways and stuff at work - I make everyone else in the family take them though!

chicken breast is only $9.99 per kilo when on sale here otherwise its usually from $10.99 to $13.99. Anything cheaper has the skin on which just gets thrown away and can weigh almost a quarter of a kilo which goes in the bin

The locals did comment on the size of the 1kg package of bacon but I couldn't find anything smaller. I must be doing something wrong.
Re your example....that is mostly due to the weakness of the pound at the moment. So bad for people spending pounds. On a percentage of wage comparison the difference is marginal. So not so bad for people spending dollars.
