So, on what basis do you plan to get a visa for the USA?

Good luck with it, we thought about an EB-5 visa but concluded that while its a fun place to visit it can't compare with Aus as a place to live.

What does that mean?

My husband was offered H1B visa last year but I would not have been able to work and it would have taken so long to get into a secure position that we decided we could not do it.

Depending on their country of birth there are different ways. DV lottery, TN (in my case), family sponsor (again in my case since my son lives there), business visas, investor visa, both partners get sponsorships, etc.

It is easy for Canadians to get there though, that is well known isn't it. I am speaking from the point of view of a British Expat.

...and Aus citizens have the special E3 option which does include work rights for wife / husband.

No, it's not any easier for us than anyone else. There is something called TN, where we can live and work there without a visa, however it's completely reliant on being sponsored by an employer. Kind of like the NZ to Aus thing, but it's dependent on an employer. Otherwise it's the same process as anyone.

But not naturalised Aus citizens. For US visa purposes we're considered CAnadians.

Those are the options we are looking at. Anyway it is still too early, 4-5 years is a long time and who knows what lies ahead Right now we are enjoying our life in Australia, will get even better as the family is together once again with hubby now joining us.

Oh really? Well you learn something every day. I watched a TV program recently and there was a Canadian in USA and I assumed it was easy.
