Hiya!
Just a quick note - MQ's are taken care of - you go into serviced apartments to start with and then into the MQ's.
As for eduction - there is lots you can do prior to the event by researching education sites of places you would go. We're in Canberra and got lots of info from individual School and College sites.
We've been here since September 07 and have settled really well - the only bit of advice is to do your homework and don't leave it all to the ADF to sort - some is down to yourself!
Best of luck to all!!!
I did leave a post on here about our transfer experience and timeline - try to search it to see. I left tips on where we potentially fell down and how to pre empt some of the requests by arranging information prior to the event.

Thanks for that, I am just as interseted to hear any negative news aswell as positive. Don't want to have rose tinted glasses to find the lenses are broken !!!! Obviously my main concern is the lads being 17 and 18 and if there are any issues on them coming with me. I will look for your other posts.
We have 3 kids - 17, 16 & 12. All have settled brlliantly and have better social lives than we do!!!! They are settled in Schools and doing well.
We organsied the school before we came over - and the MQ was also organised. When you make the contact and get the ball rolling, ask for contact details of the OAC and any other people that you can get info from - the ADF do help with information, but it's up to you to contact people. We did this and things were very smooth.
We even brought our Dog across and she's settled well too!
All in all, if you do your homework and plan as much as you can before you get here, it runs as well as it can!
We are in Canberra and it's starting to get warmer as we're into spring - I wish we'd done it years ago! The only negative is having your wallett constantly open for the first few weeks and missing family - re-inventing yourself is an experience that I wouldn't really want to repeat, but glad to have had the challenge!

Re: any other folks transferring to the Aussie Navy
sent you an e-mail.
if they've done their A levels they should be able to go straight to uni. The Aussie equivalent is the HSC which they do in years 11 and 12. They don't have an equivalent to GCSE's and the info i've read would appear to make GCSEs next to useless.
Overall the Aussies would appear to do 1 year less in school prior to going to Uni.

Re: any other folks transferring to the Aussie Navy
Has anyone heard any news on the Labour Agreement front. It still says that they are waiting on their website, but I have been looking through the "poms in oz" website and they are saying that the agreement has been "signed off" by the various agencies ? Anyone with with news is more than welcome. I am only starting down the path to move and am worried that they may not want us brits over there now !!!!!!!

Good news or bad news ???????? just got this from the RAN ........
Due to the increase in applications and enquires being received by this
office we are experiencing delays in processing these applications and
enquires. Your application / enquiry is important to us and you will be
contacted shortly.
I thank you for your cooperation.
I am hoping that there isn't too much of a delay, I have only e-mailed them 1 week ago, so wasn't really expecting anything back yet anyway. Anyone else had a holding reply like this ????

Re: any other folks transferring to the Aussie Navy
I have to add a word of caution to those starting off down the 'lateral' road.
We were due to fly out in early September. We have been in limbo ever since. Ours is a sorry story but not the worst.
Friends of ours had been due to fly out a week after us. At the end of August they received the same information we had had – ‘still waiting for the Deputy Prime Minister’s office to sign off the new LA’ etc.
A week ago we received the phone call with good new. The LA had been agreed. Our friends were not so lucky. The job he had applied for, for which he had conditions of service for issued and agreed; a job he had resigned from the RN 12 months ago for….had NOT been included in the negotiations for the new Labour Agreement.
He is out of the mob, has kept one of his children from starting at college (anticipating a January start down under), his licence for his MQ has already expired and he is considerably out of pocket.
So please, before you apply….make sure your particular skill/specialisation is included in the new Labour Agreement. And good luck to you all.

Re: any other folks transferring to the Aussie Navy
How long to wait before I re-contact them ?????
Sent off the initial enquiry on 11 Oct and got an e-mail back on 16 Oct saying they were busy but would contact me. I guess I am being impatient..... but approx how long did everyone wait until they got the relevant papers to start the process off. Just want to get the wheels in motion before the BIG Christmas break.
Thanks in advance for any info.
