Who did you get that quote from for container? I think we are going to sell all our furniture and stuff and just start a fresh when we get there. Did I mention that I was a shopoholic

Silverski if I remember correctly that quote was from DJ Hanley ?? Do they pack your stuff or do you have to do that yourself ?

Ok, put up an ad on adverts.ie. Have a look around for similar priced cars and send a message to the posters who post on the threads for those other cars. Let them know that you have a better offer. Worked for me. Although, there is very little movement.

Congrats on getting the visa. So, December time you'll be heading off. Everyone keeps telling me that we came at the right time (end of June) so we got a chance to get used to the weather/temp changes etc. Bet you're looking forward to it. I've heard lots of good things about the Gold Coast.
There's been lots of reports on the TV that Melbourne's infrastructure won't be able to cope with the increase in population over the next 10 years as so many people are coming here.
Good luck to the rest of you still waiting.

Just as a guide for you guys, value your car here http://www.drive.com.au/ or http://www.carsales.com.au/?rs_ref=p...FQhJagodMW8FiQ and then work out the figures of exchange and also whether or not you might have to pay import duty (how long you have owned it) and also the cost of getting it serviced or getting parts. That will give you an idea whether or not to bring it with you.
Anything else, i.e. furniture, tools, nick etc. bring it all .
Important, don't throw away any paperwork from anything. They look for background reference's in absolutly everthing especially work related. Invoices, receipts, materials informatuion, warranties- bring it all if you can.

Thanks Eamon - had a quick look at the drive one - and it seems what everyone else said is pretty accurate - second hand cars are a good bit more expensive over there - wonder why that is ? Better roads ? Any ideas ?
However new ones are much better value - Nissan Murano (yep the girl likes em big !!) - AUD 50000 - Euro 68000 !!!! Smaller cars too are less expensive but not to the same extent as the bigger ones.
Hard to compare 100% like for like as you don't seem to have quite the same range of models that we have / name them a bit differently.
Silverski - as a matter of interest ... did you have Crown out to quote ? I'm getting them out next week - will let you know how I get on.

Hi Melbourne,
We ended up using Crown from this end - and the company from Limerick for the first part. It was about €1500 cheaper but I have to say that Crown were fantastic as they completely took over and dealt with all the paperwork/quarantine/etc - which was a real relief!
Getting nearer the time now. Have you a date in mind?

I've just spoken to someone in Crown and she has quoted me 6000.00 for a 20' container and just under 9000 for a 40' one.
This includes all packing here, all paperwork, delivery of container to rental and unpacking and re-assembling everything and removing all packaging material.
I forgot to ask about insurance so I'm gonna have to ring her back again - will up date later.

Back again - why are some of my words being printed in red ???? - anyway - insurance is charged at 3% of the value declared - so that would be 1500.00 on 50000.00 (for example).
What insurance did you pay Irish Gal ?
Seems a lot - but then again guess you'd have to have it really.

Hi All,
Haven't been on in a while as we arrived in Perth 17th Aug and been up to our eyes getting stuff organised ever since! We are currently in a holiday rental in Quinns Rocks but have found a long term rental in Butler and get the keys this Thurs, can't wait. It has been a very stressful 3 weeks but we seem to be on top of things now. I think the most stressful thing has been finding a long term rental as so many people seem to be after the same houses and we have a disadvantage that our dog will be out of quarantine at the start of Oct and not all landlords will allow pets. My husband just started his new job today...he went for an interview last wed and got an offer the next day, so at least we will have money coming in and not be dipping into our savings too much. My eldest daughter (15) has an interview in Irene McCormicks High School tomorrow and hopefully she will have a place there. My 5 year old is due to start pre primary in Brighton Catholic School on Mon and I have enrolled my 3 year old to start Kindy there in Feb. There's just so much to do when you get here first, but at least we can relax a bit now and start to enjoy our new lives. If anyone needs any info on Medicare, Drivers Licences etc. just let me know and I will do my best to help. Good luck.
