If you've got My Sisters Keeper then its really worth reading Indie - much better than the film.
My friend just sent me a book and it was brilliant - called Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Its a true story about a girl growing up as a strict muslim and then how she changes as she starts to question everything. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered another book called Burned Alive - another true story about a girl who brought dishonour on her family and so they tried to kill her by dousing her with petrol and setting her alight. She survived though - its a chilling read.

Right, HSK is next on my list then Patty. I have heard about Infidel I think... that sounds good. I loved The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Doesn't sound like cheery reading though and any book called Burned Alive is not going to be a bundle of laughs either is it.....

Have also just ordered Where God only comes to weep - a story about an Afghan woman who rebels against life within a forced marriage.......again not a bundle of laughs but sounds really compelling reading.
(In my defence I AM reading Sophie Kinsella's latest for a bit of light hearted humour in between all these tragic stories )

I love Sophie Kinsella books for a bit of getting in touch with my inner girlie. Nothing restores my faith in all that is English than skipping through one of these in a day.

Next on my list to read are the first three Rutminster Jilly Coopers, Riders, Polo and Rivals. I read Appassionata recently but i think Jilly had lost her touch a bit by that one. I also heard her new book Jump is awful...

Thanks for the baby book tips btw!

I've tried Jilly (Riders) but she doesn't do it for me. It sounds sad but it reminds me of my mum sneaking off to read her Mills and Boons in the bath whilst smoking her Consulate ciggies (this was the 1980s remember ) and that isn't going to be me. Loads of my UK friends adore them though!

I only got into them a couple of years ago after SIL was raving about them. They are so cheesy that i find them a fun read. Not sure i'd be into Mills and Boon, even if there has been a bit of a revivial in them recently!

I love love love Jilly Cooper! I must have read Polo about 5 times, just love Rupert Campbell-Black (how sad am I?) the Rutminster ones are by far the best. My mum just finished her latest one and says that she (Jilly) has really lost the plot now

I am reading "Baby-Led Weaning" by Gill Rapley. Putting it into practice is proving to be so much fun!
