I'm not sure it's all that expensive for most items but bread and cheese are out of this world, most noticeably if you like good bread. When you buy veg it goes off much quicker when you get it home...

$1300 per week for a three bed house is excessive but just reflects that the property is in a good area. This $5200 per month, and if a couple earn about 70k each this is affordable. Nice houses...

And not only are houses expensive but interest rates are much higher, so bigger monthly expenditure servicing the $500,000 debt at 7% where the repayments could easily be $3000 every month if not...

Not much, really. Petrol and red meat, maybe. The main saving used to be housing which was much cheaper than England but this isn't the case now. Some wines are cheaper I think.
