What's for dinner?

Re: What's for dinner?
No need to pay the premium for Hellmans, Best Foods is the same thing with a different label and I usually get two or three in advance when it's on special. The Heinz 'Seriously Good' one is a relatively new kid on the block and I have been tempted to give it a try but to date have passed it by, as we can't afford too many failed experiments.
As for making it myself............... life is way too short.

life too short to make your own mayo - that's exactly what i said when i had this issue in Oz and my french flatmate told me how "easy" it is to make your own! ha ha
Saying that - i had leftover egg yolks from something so decided to make some a while ago - used a real cheapo olive oil and it tasted rank!

Mine wasn't too dissimilar. Roast beef sarnies with a slather of Dijonnaise, tinned beetroot, pickled onions and gherkins. A man-size lump of lemon madeira cake (made by my own fair hand with lemons from the gardin).

Best foods is the only stuff worth bothering with- I've tried them all!
I do make my own mayo but only for special treats- fennel and garlic flavour over warm freshly dug spuds is lush.
Jamie Oliver's Early Autumn Minestrone tonight- though as it isn't early autumn I've tweaked the ingredients to spare the purse!

A friend's homemade curry which was a bit 'warm' for me so I will suffer tomorrow.
Last evening. Pork spare ribs and stir fry.
Thursday. Cheap pasta up the pub for once a month quiz night. That's our big night out .
Evening before that. Home made pizza which Mr BEVS rather liked.

How funny, that's exactly what I did today. I hadn't had spare (spear) ribs for years and then I saw a recipe in Greg whatshisname - you know him off the telly... umm NZ Masterchef / Countdown speccy geezer's book, that I had got from the library and just had to make some.
Han'some it was, definitely a keeper.

DONE!

I did my own tweaks with this:
I didn't include fresh thyme, only parsley, but added some dried oregano.
I added in 2 tbs (approx) of ketchup and 1 grated carrot
Didn't bother with the loaf tin - just formed it into loaf shape and put on a foil covered tray.
Also didn't add the nutmeg or chicken stock to the mash - just some salt and pepper.

I've got a question for you good NZ peeps. Pams Pickled Onions - we get them here and they travel well and nice n crunchy, but why no pickling spices in them? Is this a kiwi thing? No pickling spices? Just wondered. Ta in advance.
