Maybe I've been here too long.

There's plenty I'd leave behind in a heartbeat though. And most of it's the food! And the cold-callers. And the junk mail. And the credit "offers". And the whole credit system in general. And the banking system. And, and, and...

Chris.

Here in the US? Since 2001.

I guess I'm comparing the Brits I meet here to when I lived in central London. I'm not anywhere near a city now, which is nice, but there's also a couple of fellow Englishers around too.

I'd miss

The good friends I've made here and my new family
My job, never had one I loved more (never had less vacation mind, but that for the list below)
Memphis Dry Ribs, Hush Puppies, Corn muffins, potato salad at Red Hot and Blue
Chili Dogs at Ben's Chili Bowl in DC
Hot Corned Beef sandwiches and Chicken Soup with Kreplach at Carnegie Deli NY
Great Sushi in DC, NY and Chicago
Giordano's pizza in Chicago
Minutemaid lemonade
Sunny DC days even if its cold the sun shines most days
Our apartment pool and roof sundeck
Shopping..period
Our huge apartment in Downtown DC
Media Mail

I wont miss

Right wing Christians or any self righteous Christians (they dont seem as extreme in the UK ???)
Many, but not all republican politicians
Too many frickin commercials for TV shows
Guns
The "mmmmmhmmmmm" you get as a response from people when you say "Thank you", it really sounds so rude!
10 days vacation!!! insane
Junk mail - Pleas to take out frickin loans - pre approved credit stuff.

(once you've caught up with eating all the things that you missed from home first!) I've thought long and hard about this and sadly my answer is "not very much!". There are restaurants that I enjoy, "Olive Garden", "Red Lobster" (sorry anyone that lives in Maine, Mass, Ca, or anywhere that you can get FRESH fish!!! but specific foods I can't think of any, I'm sure that there are some, lets see if anyone can jog my memory!
well if we are talking about food it has to be Mexican, we only ever eat out at Mexican restaurants these days, we love it...even when we do it ourselves...you can by big slabs of seasoned beef ready for fajitas that just needs to be cooked on the grill...yum yum....out door barbecues...summers lazing at the pool and frozen margarita's...I'd miss all of it

Well, seeing as I'm moving home in 21 days I've made a list-:

- Buffalo Wings.
- NyQuil.
- The current series of Lost.
- People who can drive in snow.
- Taco Bell.
- Pointing out to Americans how much better I am than them.
- Fuddruckers.
- Shitty Country music on the radio - which would include burly men weeping about not humping their best friends alpaca way back in good ole Kentucky.
- Free coffee everywhere from the diner to the Delta Sonic oil change.
- Retarded parents shitting themselves that their kids might see a nipple on tv before they're 25 years old.
- Being asked if I'm Australian/Canadian/James Bond/royalty/Sherlock Holmes.
- Frozen custard.
- Tim Hortons.
- Hearing how much of an athlete that 350 pound fat American football player is because he has been upright for 15 seconds.
- Winstons.
- The Outerbanks.
- Fishing and accidentally catching sharks.
- Canada.
- 4 seasons.
- Chocolate covered pretzels - and I don't even like pretzels.
- Free internet hook-up.
- Absurdly graphic pornography on DirecTV.
- You guys.

Sorry, forgot Menards, used to go to there when we lived in Illinois, I always thought there was something a bit Hillbillyish about them, maybe it was the musac they played? Or maybe it was the dedicated trailer parts department

Collection of mail from my mailbox. Now that's neat.
Oh yeah. And being able to leave the money for stamps, or if you've a friendly mailman, have him post packages for you

Wonder why no one mentioned the drive through banking/chemists? Seems to be on everyone's list whenever this thread is posted

I'd miss turns on red light...

Almost affordable lobster...it's pretty expensive this year because of last years mess.

In Maine, Freeport, and only 5% sales tax.

Fresh Blueberries

Glaceau Vitaminwater...it's fab, and that Jones Soda ain't bad.

Decent, free Maple Syrup.

I'm sure there are other things, but can't think of anything right now...

Dion't know about the trailer parts dept.,but it was the only DIY place in our area for ages then Lowes opened a few years ago,and he went there a few times but could never find exactly what he was looking for....as soon as he walked in the doors!(he's not the most patient person in the world!)...and it's way over the other side of Bloomington!....there's a Home Depot being built right across the road from Menards now,so we'll see what that brings!....Sophia
