When I went back in August I was so disappointed with the clothes. I went on a shopping spree with my 8 year old daughter expecting to spend a fortune and ended up buying just a few nice things from Next. I did buy her lots of underwear and nighties from M&S though.

The tops I bought her from Next all shrank in the wash .

Even worse, her husband of 30 years has been advised that he may have to divorce her so she would become eligible for medicaid:

http://www.wakeupwalmart.com/news/20050816-spd.html
I don't want to be the only one who sides with the evil capitalist running dog corperation WalMart but I will:

Last week, the health plan sued Debbie Shank in federal court in St. Louis, demanding the full $417,000 she got in the civil suit - plus at least $51,000 more from the share that already went to lawyers and costs.
A suit such as this is not uncommon, and is a way for self-financed health plans - employer and union-funded plans - to recoup medical expenses, say lawyers who handle health and insurance law.

So...this is quite common, but since it is WM, it is bad? I despise all insurance companies, but I imagine that anytime there is a settlement/judgement that includes compensation for medical expenses, they are 1st in line to get their grubby mits on it.

Shank and her husband sued G.E.M. Transportation Inc. and Texas truck driver James David Shivers in federal court in September 2000 after Shank was hit by the tractor-trailer while making a U-turn on Highway 177 near Cape Girardeau, according to the original lawsuit.

OK- She was to blame (doing a U-Turn in a Highway), gets T-Boned by a semi and sues...and the truck line's insurance settles out of court, due to the huge amount of STUPID jury members who award millions just to show they care... screw the law.

"I can't believe that they've done this," said Maurice Graham, one of her lawyers. "The cost to care for her in the future is going to be literally millions," Graham said. "She is confined to a nursing home, has a normal life expectancy and requires full-time care."

If that is the case, why did they settle for $900,000...if they had a case??

The Shanks settled in August 2002 for $900,000. After attorneys' fees and expenses, an irrevocable trust set up for Debbie Shank got $417,477 and her husband got $119,280, according to court documents.

So- this lawyer who cares so much for her and her situation kept almost $400K for his fee? I see- he is such a caring soul!!

I shop at super target for food and some household stuff, pretty good selection and reasonably priced, the supertarget by us is also seems to be a very very nice one. Don't really go for walmart unless they have something i want. For clothes shopping i can recomment kohls. For women's clothes it is so-so. Can find some good things but can be hit or miss, also be warned sometimes when u wash the clothes they tend to shrink (summer tops mostly). The men's department is actually way way better. My husband loves it. Went and bought a bunch of nice dress shirts for work, at around $14 a shirt, and he even got asked at work where he bought them as some1 wanted the same colour lol.

The Next tops I bought her (and me) 2 years ago were all OK and didn't shrink. I don't think last year's range (particularly for 8yr old girls) was up to Next's usual standards so perhaps it'll improve this summer.

My teenage son has an England flag T Shirt from Next that has been washed at least once a week for the last 2 years and it's still in perfect condition.

Yeah ive noticed that big time, what i have discovered is the misses category actually covers women who aren't wanting to dress fuddy duddy, as i assumed misses was teenager, but i found some really nice pant suits and dress pants i had been needing in that department, esp in JC Penny. Just to add, wasnt all tiny sizes either, think they went up to like size 16 or 18 in misses.

Well, if it makes you feel any better I apply the same views as I expressed on here to any major company who acts in such a ruthless way, not just WallyWorld.
As for the settlement in this particular case, well yes, it did seem a bit odd that she was doing a U-Turn and the settlement did seem pretty low. Still, that doesn't effect the fact that I find walmart's potential course of action rather distasteful.

Good post though

No, it's bloody hard finding anything that would look good on someone under 60, unless you go to the teens section. I'd feel too much of a fraud to do that And what's with everything being made of polyester? It gets so hot here during the summer, and yet everything is made of polyester etc, just to make you sweat that much more.

As do I... and I imagine that nothing has been heard of this since August due to some PR VP making the self-insurance division to drop the whole thing.

In the UK, seniors are forced to sell their houses if they go into residential homes. This has been going on for quite some time.

Good deals. But then again, if you keep your eyes open and shop the sales, you can pick up clothing for next to nothing at Penney's, Gap, Old Navy etc.
They used to have a Bealls in this tiny town where I used to live in North Texas, they used to pronounce it Bells!!!

I'm with you there, I hate shopping, but I'll be shopping my arse off while I'm there. I just received my Christmas/Birthday package from my best friend back home, she bought my son so many lovely tops & trousers, great styles, plus no one will be dressed the same as him here!!!
