I see that they are now forecasting a nasty cold snap to add to the misery, especially for those without power etc.

My husband and I just spent the morning cleaning out cupboard drawers and closets for donations. A local bar is collecting for families in the Rockaways. We donated cleaning supplies, food, toiletries and pet food and supplies. I spent the part of my summers when I was a kid at my grandmothers bungalow in the Rockaways.
The volunteers were so grateful for any type of donation. It was amazing how many people came out to donate.

So it seems there was still a impromt NYC marathon, even if it wasn't an official one, just between the folks who stuck around, especially as the water stations hadn't been cleared away for a lot of it.
Friend said it was a nice change of pace from cleaning up.

Lots of the marathoners have been volunteering as well. I'm going to try and do that tomorrow.

My ball and chain worked 67hours last week, had one day off and has just come home from another 14hr shift. I really hope he gets some relief soon

Glad the power crews DOD flew in have done the job even if non-union.
Seriously, glad the power is back on.
BTW, I am absorbed with this since 29 Oct. Appreciate the spot reports it does help us know what is happening on the ground, we use all sources. Water Pumps, food distro, fuel distro, search and rescue etc... DOD is all in when FEMA or a State requests assistance, but they MUST ask>....
We, DOD, have thousands standing close by, for those requests. Problem is the requests are not coming, vs demand we see on the news.
DOD is an asset after all, when requested. Big planes, trucks, fuel etc.... We are limited by the law as to what we can do, naturally, but stand ready to fill the gaps the locals cannot.
