But ok I get it, thanks
Well if its a foot in the door I need then it'll have to do, and I'll have to find the best I can at the time.

In fact I looked at all the areas which supported engineering in my line of work and Portland seemed to be the nicer place.
Anyway it doesn't matter where we live as long as I can get my foot in the door and stay for a few years then I can alway up jump and move somewhere else in the country as long as it wasn't too far from work.
Good news though, my current recruitment consultant works with a few forging companies in the US, one in Detroit, one near Chicago and the other near Buffalo by the falls, and he asked me if I would want to work in the US. ....

I would suggest Ann Arbor but it's a bit far too commute. This conversation might help you http://www.city-data.com/forum/detro...e-between.html

Now you're talking, and getting closer to reality. A visit to Portland, OR to look at houses is unlikely to help you at all. If you're dead set on coming over for research purposes, a road trip from Buffalo, NY to Chicago, (and back?) is likely much more relevant for your line of work, through the rust belt of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana.

I don't know America so it would be nice to have so positive feedback from the people that know America.....please.
Thank you Lt Pulaski, this sort of trips looks the right sort of way we need to go.
Thanks mate
