UK NI contributions don't go to 'fund those who can't be arsed', they go to provide the taxpayer the security that if they get sick, they have IB; if they lose their job they have JSA or IS, that there is the NHS so they don't bankrupt themselves because they don't have private coverage because they have the audacity to be genetically prone to high blood pressure et cetera ad infinitum.
Bloody hell.

Re: Poverty in the USA
I don't really consider myself "so pro welfare state". I do believe there should be a solid safety net to help those that truly need it. Otoh, I believe that welfare must not become an impediment to encouraging people to be in work. It's a difficult tradeoff to pull off, and both the US and UK fail in different respects.
Interesting that you feel able to state that "one of the reasons we move to the States is that more of our income is in our pockets as opposed to funding those who simply to put it bluntly cant be arsed.". Well, maybe that was true for you but it sure as heck wasn't for me. Generalize much?

Speak for yourself. I didn't move here for financial reasons. I'm no better off financially than I was in the UK, maybe worse off because I have health issues that I can't take care off. Stop assuming.

I'm also vehemently pro-birth control
No, here in the US your taxes go to bail out failing banks, so they can continue to peddle dodgy loans to people who will then foreclose on their homes, finding themselves destitute and without any kind of safety net because that's just evil and socialist, horror of horrors.

No, not everyone here for that reason....and you're still paying the same taxes, to cover the same kind of stuff, but just not the ability to claim it yourself....
