Ok, matie... Here you go:
Homeowners tax: Based on the evaluation, I pay $51 for every $1,000. The next town (four miles away) pays $22 for every $1,000.
Car insurance: Just as in the UK, depends on the insurer, where you live history, age and condition of the vehicle...etc... What I pay is irrelevant as I doubt you'll own a 2003 Subaru Outback and live in Up-State New York.
Medical Insurance: Depending on the level of service you're after, this could be between $15 a month and $200 a month (but this depends on the past medical history of the insured people, whether you have employer contribution...etc...). Beyond that, you may or may not have a co-pay in addition to the monthly insurance cost (generally, the lower the monthly payment, the higher the co-pay). If you're after the "extra" package, it'll be up the high end.
As said before, it varies from person to person and from location to location. Each state has it's own laws regarding some of this stuff... Some counties and even TOWNS have their own rules regarding these sort of things.
Now... Get your visa sorted out and feel free to come back when you have more questions.

But you're not giving people the info they need to be able to tell you stuff like living costs!! For instance, you ask about tax but don't tell us where you are planning on living - each state has different levels of tax so it'll vary massively depending on your location.
Give a lot more info, and you'll get it in return. You can't be vague and expect people to just guess!

Answers to the questions in post 102 are what is needed for people to be able to help you, and I'd also add another one - will you be coming with a family (if so, what age children), or just you i.e. how many people will you have to budget for?

There you go rags, proof that anything we say regarding living costs is entirely subjective and based on our own experiences.

There's a whole heap of sites out there, I think I used http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ at some point but when it comes to health insurance it's certainly worth shopping around and making sure you understand how it works too with co-pays etc. I get my insurance through work so I'm certainly no expert.
