My advice: Just arrive with an open mind and looking forward to a new life..Things are different here, embrace it, don't fight it. It's a lot easier to swim downstream than it is to fight the currents every day..

In that case, provided you do come over here before you get a job, be sure not to get badly sick or injured if you don't have insurance (via a job, usually), as you will end up paying through the nose and probably won't have much left to pay your way otherwise.

You dont apply for a work visa, the sponsoring company does.

Are you at the top of the field? Likely to be head-hunted? Work for a company with office/s in the USA?

If not, you have next to no chance. If you are serious about moving to the USA, then you need to have a very long-term plan to make the aforementioned happened.

Worry about the visa first. You may find that makes all your other worries simply vanish.
