Ok so shall I email the newsdesk at the BBC either (a) to allow confirmation of how genuine the offer really is (b) lure some benefactor to get OP home, or (c) expose the (whisper it) scam?
It occurs I would also need to pm the OP to allow him/her the opportunity to be available for interview.....................

As has been said before the UK Embassy has the means to get the guy home. They have the ability to lend the money or buy the ticket, the guys passport is taken an emergency travel document issued and he doesn't get another passport until the loan is repaid. Seen people arriving at Heathrow in similar circumstances quite a few times.
Part of the reason why the UK tax payers pay for Embassy staff around the world, to provide assistance in times of desperate need.

there is nothing wrong with a little humanity.
no offense mate but with 45 posts........ we don't know you,
how about we send some money to Ray instead.
a) he's old and got nothing better to do
b) he's a pitbull and will make sure it's not a scam
c) if it is a scam he'll refund everyone.
I think that's a much fairer proposition than to send you money no?

Why the heck would I send money to cindy to buy this bloke an airline ticket. He's dumb enough to be in the fix he's in, then let him sit on a street corner and beg for change or get another under the table job and earn his money for the ticket while sleeping in shelters during the night.
Ain't fair to ask us to donate to some idiot who ****ed up financially while ****ing up his girlfriend on his visit to the US.

I realised that's what you meant before I posted my previous post...therefore I still standby what I said. Deedee offered to get him a ticket for just over $100...surely he could raise that amount without too much difficulty...even if it meant a little cash in hand work. I don't think people should be asked to donate money by a relatively new member for an unknown person. Like I said before if you wish to pay for his ticket fine...but I don't think you should ask others to do so.
