Indeed, we bought a very nice traditional spring and padding mattress, as best I recall it cost just over $2,200 and is very comfortable - firm, and with none of that pillow-top frou-frou nonsense.

Mrs P and I both like the same sort of mattress so we have never felt the need to even think about a sleepnumber bed, and we're both averse to any sort of mattress than we sink into (foam or pillow-top), and/or has to be promoted with slogans bragging about how it was designed to keep you cool (when by reputation that style of mattress tends to make you warm). So it is traditional mattresses all the way for us.

A memory foam mattress is the way to go. Bought our first around 10 years ago and we wouldn't have anything else.

Do retailers see you coming?

To be fair, it was just a mid-range mattress that we purchased. It was a store next to the local Aston Martin dealership, so I'm assuming their clientèle have money to spend.

I thought we were saving money to be honest; a US King Vi-Spring was $10k. I've slept on Vi-Spring's [greatest mattresses in the world [1]] my entire adult life, so changing to a latex bed was something I wasn't going to skimp on.

So far, I'm very pleased with it.

As I said, you spend a third of your life in bed. A good mattress is critical to everything you do in your awake hours; if you can't or don't sleep well, your day is going to be less productive and more stressful. You cannot put a price on getting a good nights sleep.

I say that with complete seriousness. I'm able to spend that money on the mattress, so why wouldn't I?

Not even latex? Memory foam is a cheaper alternative to latex.

Because you could have made a purchase for a tenth of that price if you were willing to look beyond labels and still slept as well, dumbass.

Except you can't. Stop kidding yourself otherwise.
It's not about 'labels', it's about quality. Next you'll be telling us that Miele is 'just a label', despite their superior manufacturing and design.

It's the same with mattresses. Until you've slept on a good (and I mean, good) mattress, and done so for many years, you're really unqualified to suggest otherwise.

I am just grateful I don't suffer from the ignorance that you appear to on this subject. Here, over to the man from John Lewis: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle...which-one.html

I'm a nurse that makes $70K a year with overtime, Horace. I never did get into that thread you posted on your wife having to push fatties around.

What I do know, is making what I do a year entitles me to not having to sleep with men like you.

If I consistently sleep like a log and wake up relaxed and rested on a mattress that I find extremely comfortable and which cost well above the average price, why would I want to spend 5-10 times more?

That may certainly be true, but it doesn't get over the problem that you're still sleeping on an inferior mattress.

I have to go to sleep now. Going to drift asleep on my handmade latex bed.

PS - I'm taken. Sorry.

You wouldn't. If it works for you, and others, great. I'm not going to attempt to change your mind.

I just simply know that I have slept on vi-springs (the Rolls Royce of mattresses) for over 15 years now, and anything less than that level of quality isn't going to do it for me. I am very particular about the bed I sleep on.

Good that you are taken. Is that how you got your green card?

I imagine you're on the east coast which is why you're willing to go to sleep so early.

I have no sleep problems on the inferior mattress. I don't have any problems driving a car without a climate control. Perhaps I have a shiny clean conscience. Along with not having to push fat obnoxious folk around..............

Yep! Was easy peasy.

Ooh. I get it now. You're one of those fatties that has a blue badge and wheelchair purely for overeating, right?

Nice to know I hit a nerve.

I'm still up Horace. No need for me to go to sleep on mountain standard time. You're the one who is still awake on EST. I'm the skinny hourglass figure to the left of my post by the way.

I don't mean to make war with you. This can all wait until the morning when I haven't go so much merlot in my system.
