LA like most of Southern California has micro-climates so the averages reported may not be the same as where you end up living, could be cooler or warmer depending where you are in the area.

Mr. Fatboyslick......I warned you months ago, when replying to the first of your many posts/threads here on BE, about what you'd face if you chose to bring your 2 chinchillas when you moved:

As far as the weather is concerned, with climate change exacerbating the already unpredictable, the only thing you can count on is that you can't count on anything!

Although we had an excruciating heat wave, for an extended period, a couple of months ago (can't even recall what month is was, but do remember thinking it was uncharacteristically "early" for anything that severe), it's been uncharacteristically cool since then.

But look at this local news report, shot last year in mid Sept. :

Power Outages Reported Amid All-Time High For Electricity Demand During SoCal Heat Wave | KTLA

Also - be aware: the LADWP urge, beg, cajole, plead that you always keep your thermostat above 78F in summer. And sock it to you in your pocketbook if you don't.

Meh. Mine just has a/c settings, and then super a/c or something. Don't get me wrong, I can get goose pimples on a 100 degree day with mine but now I'm dead jealous and want a car with a temp setting. Which make and model would that be?

I thought all 21st century cars did.
Even my 1994 Lexus, which I was driving till 6 mos. ago, had it.

My 2011 Honda Accord does not have digital climate control. Just the standard AC buttons and dial.

I thought climate control was only in higher priced vehicles. Maybe we just don't look at the cars that offer it....Our 2013 Mazda 2 is lacking in the amenities department.

Be aware that one of California's many ongoing crises is a shortage of (reasonably priced) electricity and that, in an effort to encourage people to keep their usage to a minimum it is common to have a "tiered" pricing structure where the cost can increase very rapidly when your consumption exceeds some pretty miserly levels.

I don't think that Los Angeles is quite as bad as this but, where I am in Northern California, I regularly get into the "tier 3" rates (27 cents per KWH, as opposed to the baseline rate of about 16 cents per KWH) and I don't even *have* air conditioning ...

That is some pricey electricity. People here complain about our rates, but reality is we have some of the cheapest in North America.

We have 2 tiers.

Tier 1- is 0.0797 for the first 1,315 kWh

Tier 2 is anything above 1,315 kWh and is 0.1195 per kWh.

In an apartment it's pretty much impossible to use more then that, so we never get to the 2nd tier.

I had not realized California was paying so much for electricity.

My baseline Tier 1 quantity is only 7 kWh per day!

Last month's electricity bill was for 29 days and my total usage was 328 kWh - an average of about 11.3 kWh per day.

That got charged as follows:

Tier 1 - first 203 kWh @ $0.16352 per kWh
Tier 2 - next 60.7 kWh @ $0.18673 per kWh
Tier 3 - next 64.1 kWh @ $0.27504 per kWh

So, even with relatively modest usage, and what will probably be one of my lowest electricity bills of the year I am starting to pay very high rates on any marginal increase in consumption.

That is insane.

It's been a hot summer so our average use is higher then normal, our last billing cycle was 60 days, and we used 1119 kW.h @ $0.07970 /kW.h for a total of 89.18 but then they add on some other stuff basic charge is 10.94 and sales tax is 5.26 and rate rider (not sure what this is exactly) @ 5% which was 5.01.

18.65 is our average per day for May 7 to July 7, if it were a normal summer without needing the a/c so much, we would be closer to an average of 11-12, in winter we average 14-15 per day, a/c is a power hog.

But according to the power company we still use 20% then our neighbors.

JCW Mini

Standard on mine and (I think) an option on pretty much all the others.

I know Mrs. N. has it fitted on her standard Cooper.

We probably spend more cooling the house than we do heating it. I don't care. It's worth it. :)

Any decent car in the last 15 years has had this to be fair. Climate control in cars is not a new thing.

My 2014 Altima doesn't. And have just googled and found it was an option.

Many cars don't have it, but the point still stands, it's not a new feature by any means. Personally, I've never been that bothered by it - I prefer a heated steering wheel in the winter, that's my new luxury benchmark lol.
