We would probably do better with that kind of bed....

I need a firmer mattress and she likes a softer mattress. I wake up horribly sore from our current mattress, she sleeps well though, I sleep on the couch in the room instead or I wake up with a back and neck that can barely move....

Maybe 2 twins pushed together is the solution.lol

Get a sleep number bed, then you can each have it as firm or soft as you want

73 degrees 24/7 in this house, and 9c/kWh

Meh. Encountered a sleep number bed in a hotel once. It had lots of numbers, and they were all too soft. 😂

Today, in central LA at 3pm it is now 95 fahrenheit.

Your dog would not be happy unless you had your AC working full belt.

At the 3,000+ quoted on their US website (so 4,000+ in CAD) they are well beyond our budget.

I have never seen one in a store here, not sure if anyone sells them. Their website doesn't show any nearby stores in Canada, closest one is somewhere in Washington state.

I thought the OP had chinchilla's?

Dogs for the most part if given shade and water can handle 95F, lots of people in So. Cal have dogs without any a/c and the dogs survive just fine.

Lots of older houses have no a/c still. I never had a/c when I lived there, nor does my sisters, or dad and they all have dogs too.

It's not so bad if you're by the coast and can leave a window open so a breeze can blow through, but not many people are that fortunate.

I wouldn't want to leave an animal inside at 95 degrees in So Cal... doesn't seem fair :(

The dogs I know there have access to the outdoors via a doggy door so they are not kept inside, so figured most have doggy doors...lol

I just don't know anyone in the San Diego region with a/c even in east county, but they all have dogs but they are not left locked in a house, windows are open all the time, and doggy door access.

My dad has a mastiff and keeps a kiddie pool filled in the summer, she loves it.

I suppose if you go to the wealthier area's a/c might be more common. The peeps I know are in Chula Vista/El Cajon/Escondido and Spring Valley. But they are all old school residents born and raised well back in the day, a/c was the norm, we never had it growing up.

We bought our sleep number bed in Calgary back in 2007. I think it was at a Sleep Country Store, and it was $4,000+ but we love it.

I wouldn't be able to sleep if I had spent that much on a bed.

I think they only sell them in their own stores  You can just buy the mattress and not the frame, and it's cheaper then.

We bought one last year, best money we've spent in a very long time. Strange thing is, we've both been uncomfortable for a long time, hubby insisting he needed a firm mattress, so it was like sleeping on a plank. We can now make our own settings and he actually sleeps on a softer setting than I do.

To link back into the actual thread, you can also get one with a cooling setting, might be useful for the chinchillas in LA ;)

Come now. We spend 1/3 of our life asleep. So why not spend good money on it? We spent around $6k on our King Mattress from Naturepedic (Latex).

If you have it, spend as much as you want, for the rest of us we have to stay realistic and within a limited budget.

Aside from price of the sleep number, we live in a small town with exactly 1 place to buy a mattress, initially tried Ikea since they had ones we could take home, but it didn't work out, sold it for what we paid, and bought a normal mattress but it's still not to my liking, also being a small town the show room has only 2 or 3 on display and only the 1,500+ models.

Our budget was 500-600 so we don't get a huge variety, my wife likes the mattress though and sleeps fine on it.

Funny, isn't it? Everyone's different. In my case, my favorite matress ever cost $300 new. The ex-wife hated it, which was convenient. 😂
