aaah but you didn't say "hardline" criminals, did you?
Even if you had it's still an unsupportable generalisation.

If, Tookie hadn't have been caught, he would have killed more people - fact

If since being incarcerated, he tried to warn people against gang culture (I dunno if he did or not) But suppose he did, and his work since being in Prison helped in some way then I would say keep him alive.

Not for his sake. But for the sake of a possible 4 year old girl caught in the crossfire of a future driveby.

The State shouldn't have kept him alive for his sake as he was a murdering arse.. Just the sake of possible future innocents taken due to gang warfare.

Didn't he write a book about the dangers of gang culture? That book will be available for reading whether he is alive or dead ... and maybe the fact that he is dead will serve as a better warning against gang culture than if he had been kept alive because of it.

Debatable. If you attempted to factor in the potential violence he himself could have caused either directly within the prison community or indirectly by the use of his gang networks outside I would have to say that on balance the world is possibly a little less violent with his execution.

And what about its effects on society? Support for the death penalty says far more about its advocates than it does about either the murderer or the victim. We live in a country where violence has bred violence, and it has become acceptable. Just look around you!

No easy answer is there. Turn a blind eye and they will carry on murdering people. Incarcerate them and they will carry on with business while being a burden to society. Execute them and we join the ranks of those that take life and contribute to the net violence.

Nonsense.
The problem with wishy-washy liberal thinking is that it doesn't take into account that there are fundamentally bad people in this world who don't care about being fair or kind to others, so why should we show fairness or kindness to them - no amount of appeasement will ever change them - it will just encourage them to take more and more from the rest of society.
Its a shame that people with views such as yourself end up damaging the cause of people in this world who really need help by lumping them in with second rate human beings who deserve all the punishment that they are getting and then some.
Don't forget to pay your Amnesty International subs next year fb
