Imo a sensible caring person would have missed the flight and taken the dog home.

Some people just shouldn't have animals. Or children if it comes to that.

Surely there's a whole bunch of things to do in advance of taking a dog on an international flight (more than just a rabies shot)?

I thought the only way to carry a dog on an international flight was in the cargo hold, but from what I'm reading now, some airlines allow small dogs to be carried in a soft-sided container under the seat in the main cabin. But this is tightly controlled, requires prior approval, an approved container, possibly a fee, and there are food requirements, etc (on a 12-hour international flight, how do you handle 'bathroom breaks')? Personally I'm allergic to dogs and would have to be re-located if I found myself sitting near a dog for that long.

I'm seeing more and more 'entitled' dog owners bringing their dogs into grocery stores and restaurants. In California, the law prohibits dogs in any food facility (so grocery stores and restaurants are out, except for 'patios'). There's an exception for 'service animals' (eg, 'seeing eye dogs'), but from what I've read people are now simply claiming their dog is an 'emotional support' animal, and you can't refuse such an animal. There's some indication that you need a letter from a doctor saying you need an 'emotional support animal' for rental housing purposes, but I don't think a grocery store or restaurant can demand to see such a letter.

From the Guardian article:
"The dog had a companion vest, collar, rabies tag, a dog travel bag and a bone-shaped dog tag with Lawrence’s name and contact information. An implanted microchip provided Tywinn’s identity to investigators..."

No such need here in Europe as the dog owners just bring their dogs in IKEA, the supermarket, restos/bars even if there are No dog signs posted..
Leave them at home...

I have long argued that the US constitutional prohibition on "cruel and unusual" punishments should be relative - the punishment should be no more cruel or unusual than the crime that was committed.

Whoa .. there actually ARE monsters under the bed (in Kansas)

“One child complained there was a ‘monster’ under their bed. When the victim attempted to show the child there was nothing under the bed, she came face-to-face with a male suspect who was hiding there,”
Villalobos was charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and violation of a protection from abuse order. He is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Only in America. I’m usually a bit cynical about these claims, but this is a true example of American exceptionalism

I found this while looking for dining on the outskirts of Boston. The owners seem to be confused. 🫤

You mean .. French name on Italian restaurant? That place is a chain in the Boston area. It’s really good, in a sort of 1950s family dining sort of way. Very dated, tacky decor. We used to go to the original one, in Waltham, back in the early 90s when the children were little. I would have the veal parmigiana I think Our daughter can eat prodigious quantities of food, now she’s 42 years old and she hasn’t changed

But, I have to add, we drive past one on the highway when we drive to Boston - and every time I think .. why is that place called the Chateau??

Is it Italian or Eyetalian? It might matter.

It's an interesting question though. For example, would you expect a restaurant called Schloss Gruber to provide Vietnamese cuisine?
