Well, nomenclature aside, they should be spayed and neutered as soon as humanly possible to end the cycle.

Probably less painful than having to share a bedroom with some random fellow student. Honestly, I've never understood the US college roommate thing.

However, I'll bet Hartford University student services has some kind of procedure for changing roommates? Without the requirement to stick her toothbrush up your **s?

I have discussed that with Mrs P, but apparently typically "roommates" each have their own room with a shared bathroom and kitchen, they aren't "roommates" as we understand that word in the UK. Or so Mrs P says.

My daughter's first 2 years of college, she shared a room with another girl. They in turn shared a bathroom with another 2-bed room.

Later, she moved into a 4-bedroom apartment where she had her own room but shared a bathroom, living room and kitchen.

She never really got on with ANY of her roommates.

When I was at uni in Colorado, it was nearly all 2-person rooms. The whole floor of the dorm (maybe 40 rooms) shared the two bathrooms (one male and one female). Most dorms were the same, but there were a few places that had a lot of singles and triples.

I have a feeling that the traditional roommate situation, literally sharing a bedroom with someone else, predominated in former times because it made illicit sex (m/f) much harder to arrange. That's no longer an issue, colleges don't police those relationships these days. So the single room, "suite" situation that you describe is common in newer dorms....

I don't find this that weird. Why would you not give your kid a protective backpack? In my State is is only legal for USCs to have one of these backpacks. These have been available for years.

The price for dorms has also increased. Dorms are becoming more like hotel rooms.

The very fact that you don't find this weird is a whole helluva lot of WTF-ery in my book. Really? You don't think it's bizarre that it is "a thing" that a K-12 school sells bullet-proof panels on its own website, for parents to buy for their kids' backpacks? Seriously, that is a very sad indictment indeed of American society.

And in the UK I would give my kid a knife resistant backpack. Is it weird for the headmaster to do locker checks for knifes? Is that an invasion of privacy?

I would also want my kids to ride in school buses with seat belts. However that's a foreign idea in the US. I would also like a seat belt when riding on a tour bus.

Some beer is banned in 12 States in the US. You can buy guns, but you can't buy beer.

A newly released $200 beer is illegal in 12 states.. but not in Ohio | fox8.com
