Why is the US so bereft of decent modern xmas songs? Glad I got my UK xmas compilations that feature Slade, Wizard, and the Waitresses. Actually, those might be stretching "modern" since they were 70s and 80s, but at least they are more recent than Jingle Bells. Do recent xmas songs just not catch on? Mariah Carey seems to be the only one, and even that song is 20 years old now.

And what's with the alternative lyrics and tunes? Did someone just take the lyrics of Away In A Manger and add it to another tune? Was that the US or UK that did it?

Presumably because, other than the one by Slade and that one the Darkness did a few years back, the entire world is bereft of decent modern Christmas songs?

I'm sick of hearing old crooners singing festive songs, and Mrs P's CD of "Cowboy" renditions of Christmas songs which little Miss P has latched on to. ...... But above everything else I dispise "Oh Tannenbaum" aka "Oh Christmas Tree", with a vengeance, especially as an instrumental, because all my brain wants to do is overlay the words of the Red Flag.

I really miss hearing "Merry Christmas" by Slade.

I just started getting sick of it after a while. It really isn't anything special as a song anyway, it just gets played a lot.

Me neither. Nor anything Christmassy by Paul McCartney. Though despite missing hearing Slade I am mighty thankful that the Frog Chorus also failed to make it across the Atlantic, which for some bizarre reason is considered to be a Christmas song in the UK.

Oh christ, every single time I have gone into a shop in the last few weeks, that bloody Wonderful Christmas Time has been on. Every single time.

He really should have done time for synth abuse after that song. Hard to believe that's the same guy who wrote Maybe I'm Amazed
