WTF in America

Re: WTF in America
Why is the US so bereft of decent modern xmas songs? Glad I got my UK xmas compilations that feature Slade, Wizard, and the Waitresses. Actually, those might be stretching "modern" since they were 70s and 80s, but at least they are more recent than Jingle Bells. Do recent xmas songs just not catch on? Mariah Carey seems to be the only one, and even that song is 20 years old now.
And what's with the alternative lyrics and tunes? Did someone just take the lyrics of Away In A Manger and add it to another tune? Was that the US or UK that did it?

I really miss hearing "Merry Christmas" by Slade.

Me neither. Nor anything Christmassy by Paul McCartney. Though despite missing hearing Slade I am mighty thankful that the Frog Chorus also failed to make it across the Atlantic, which for some bizarre reason is considered to be a Christmas song in the UK.

He really should have done time for synth abuse after that song. Hard to believe that's the same guy who wrote Maybe I'm Amazed
