No idea. Maybe Interpol have a procedure for detaining people in those kinds of circumstances, and perhaps lansbury or someone else in the know might be able to explain.

In fact her husbands job did not qualify for diplomatic immunity, that was an excuse given out by the UK government after they had allowed hoim to be spirited out of the UK.

Or it could also be likely.
It would appear that the husband Jonathon Sacoolas does not appear on any official diplomatic listing.
Some poor lad has died as the result of dangerous driving. The person responsible basically did a hit and run. That is disgusting.

I'm as disgusted by the events as anyone else and I believe that's actually on record in this forum.

Where's the source for the claim that this guy (and more importantly, his wife) never had diplomatic immunity? Neither you or mikelincs have substantiated that as yet. Then there's also mikelincs accusation that the British government are guilty of a cover up. We're in danger of slipping into conspiracy theory territory here.

I do agree. It is good to check actual official sources.
It is here. It is called the Diplomatic List

She shouldn't need to be forced to return, any decent person would take responsibility for what she did. Has anyone seen the boy's mother interviewed? She's very articulate and isn't baying for blood, she just wants to know the exact circumstances surrounding the death of her son and for the person responsible to face the usual legal process. She's even said that she feels sorry for the woman and would ask the judge/magistrate to not impose a custodial sentence.

That would be the UK government's own list. The chap was not listed. Perhaps why the couple were advised to do a runner back to home turf and why there was a delay in informing the bereaved family.

The guy is a US spook. They're not exactly known for parading their credentials openly, for rather obvious reasons.

We don't live in one though. People act in irrational and selfish ways at times. That's not even taking into account the additional international political dimension present in this particular case either.

I seem to recall reading (and always take anything you read with a grain of salt) that a 1968 agreement basically waiver the employees on bases right to immunity in advance - but that they forgot to include family in the agreement so she did in fact have immunity.
Like I said, grain of salt.

Full diplomatic immunity is limited to accredited staff and their families - those whose names appear on the diplomatic list. Technical and consular staff receive far more limited protection for actions carried out during the course of their duties, knocking someone off a motorcycle by driving on the wrong side of the road not being one of them. If she enjoyed that level of protection then they would’ve been no need to spirit her out of the country.
