Do you think that will bother her? Americans don't need to go overseas they have everything they need right in that country. Skiing, Natural Beauty thousands of miles of beaches and culture of all countries existing as one.

Then why do any Americans ever go abroad?

Closing an embassy is one of the last steps in breaking diplomatic relations with another country. There are steps that could be taken which are far less drastic, but still not appropriate as sanctions in this case. And I suspect the appropriate diplomatic responses have already been made, or will be.

We have far too deep relations with the US to even consider such an unfriendly act - not to mention that we are going to want things out of them during the next year.
The UK should of course register it's displeasure, and take whatever diplomatic positions it thinks is appropriate, but doing what you suggest would result in serious economic damage and, frankly, isn't worth it. We are talking about one persons actions, not a whole country, after all.

I have no idea who andyrebell is, but like most posts on BE, I assumed sarcasm...

The UK should wall itself off and have nothing to do with the outside world. Oh hang on..

This is what I thought until just now after reading a bit about the Interpol Red Notice procedure. While it would seem to be a softer response than suspending diplomatic relations (unthinkable), it's still very problematic because the US not only is an ally, but a member of Interpol. Who has to apply to Interpol for the Red Notice (Ministry of Justice? Scotland Yard?), and what would Trump do in response? If I was writing the script I'd have the news break about 2 o'clock Washington time when he's up tweeting.

I wouldn't have run in the first place. I do have a keen sense of honor and responsibility. If prison were the outcome, then I would have to do it. But turning yourself in, going to trial, and with a verdict of accidential manslaughter (which is possible), there might not be anything more than community time involved.

The US would simply ignore it. A Red Notice only requests that member states arrest the person named pending extradition proceedings. As Dave says, it would restrict Mrs Sacoolas’ international movements as she couldn’t be certain that any given country would not arrest her upon arrival as a result.

I think closing the embassy down in London is a tad on the extreme side, but I think we should be a little more selective in who we send over there. Remember the case of the old fella a few years back who sold some machinery to Iran. He hadn’t even broken U.K. law and we still extradited him. Unless it’s a serious case, I’d be telling the US that their request has been denied rather more frequently.
As a motorcyclist myslef, yes, this was clearly a tragic accident, but the whole thing utterly stinks!

Not many countries waive immunity do they?
Would the UK waive immunity if the roles were reversed?
