The sausage meat and thyme recipe I use is

125g unsalted butter
1½ lbs pork sausage meat
1 sweet onion, finely diced
2 carrots, peeled and grated
3 stalks celery, finely diced
½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
250g breadcrumbs
2 tbsp fresh thyme leaves

smush it all together and cook it. I've cooked it in balls and in a loaf and stuffed in the bird.
Forgot that I fry the onion, celery and carrot mix off a bit before I smush it together and cook it

How's it all going people?
Picked up eldest from Uni, got stuck in traffic. remembered to pick up bottle of port on the way home - fortunately so did OH so we won't be running out any time soon!!

Just as I got home littlest called me in a panic about her princess smurf cake. Creme patissiere (!!) wasn't going quite to plan. I walked into what used to be my kitchen but which now resembled something like a war zone. I cleared up, rescued the creme made a cup of coffee and slipped on some water spilling coffee everywhere but thankfully not hurting myself. I now need more milk, eggs and carrots.......

Is it over the yard arm yet??

Absolutely! Cheers.

I have my oldest home from boarding school, and my husband has a week off work after spending the last month in Ohio. I can't decide if I should embrace the chaos or hide from it.

8oz fresh breadcrumbs
4oz suet
rind & juice of 1 lemon
4 heaped tablespoons chopped parsley (dried or fresh, I like fresh)
2 tsp mixed herbs
2 eggs - beaten
salt and pepper

Mix dry ingredients, add eggs & lemon juice.
Form into egg sized "balls"
Put into buttered oven proof dish/pan
Cook in hot oven for 20 to 30 minutes turning once.

Experimenting with the 'cake' setting on my bread maker I didn't know about until today, and currently cooking a tea loaf involving pumpkin, spices, cranberries and pecans. This will be eaten for tomorrow's breakfast. (I'm riffing off a family Christmas tradition of a hot cross(less) bun bread made with dried fruits, orange juice and spices.)

Have festively broken out the cranberry margaritas.

OH has poured himself a v large glass of port, I fear none of it will last until cheese course tomorrow!

I wanted to take this opportunity to say how thankful I am for you all on this forum.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I was musing earlier on what would be my 'thankful' for tomorrow's speechifying - we're encouraging the kids not to be entitled monsters - and decided it would be 'my Internet friends'. I'm currently missing the 'real' friends we had back in Arizona, and haven't yet made any here in Ohio*, so the continuity of my online connections (in a few forums I frequent, and certain Facebook ones) is really helping me through.

*I'm sanguine about this - I know from repeated past experience that it'll be 18-24 months before I have any real friends, rather than passing-the-time-of-day acquaintances. But in the meantime...

BE has become an important part of my life over the last few years: full of useful advice, helping us feel less adrift in the sea of new experiences and always a place to find that uniquely British way of looking at things. Thank you all and I hope as time goes on I'll be able to repay my debt by being able to pass on advice too.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! It is always good to see new "regulars" among the myriads who just pass by like ships in the night.

Winn-Dixie did a promo - Spend $30 and get any size Turkey for $5. So, I am cooking a 14lb Turkey for one, as soon as it thaws out!

Roast spuds, carrots, cabbage, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce - should see me through till Christmas.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone, although how I thought it would a good idea to do a 5k, remains a mystery to me. DH is all excited for his 10k, made coffee, had breakfast and finished up the dishwasher I so kindly left for him to do this morning as part of his warm up plan. I have browsed the internet!
It wet but far from cold, 69f. Looking forward to the rest of the day, relaxing in my art room, hopefully finishing up a piece I am working on.

Happy thanksgiving everyone. It's our first here so we're fully embracing all the crazy dishes. Our menu is:

Roast turkey
Glazed ham
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Creamy mashed potatoes
Candied sweet potatoes
Stuffing
Corn bread
Green bean casserole
Carrots
Broccoli
Sprouts with bacon (bork )
Mac and cheese
Cranberry sauce

Pumpkin pie
Apple crumble
Jam roly poly
Pecan chocolate brownies
Pumpkin and pecan brittle
Custard
Cheese board

Copious amounts of booze.

I cooked everything yesterday (veg prepped ready for cooking) and daughter made all the puds from scratch. The kitchen resembled the one from Sesame St by the time she had finished.

Just before 8am and I'm with 3 grumpy children and 1 grumpy husband in the city waiting for the parade to start.

Hosting 2 other Brit families and planning to be serving at 3pm. Looking back on what I've written, hope there's enough booze to see me through!
