Alcatraz Not sure what to make of it Agree with other comments that it will probably get dragged out Thank God for DVRs I'll give it another week or so

New Girl My wife likes this but I dont get it Never seems to raise a chuckle with me but I do like Zoe
Pretty much everything else I have given up on or they got the boot
Terra Nova, Persons of Interest, etc
Prome Suspect I do like but we can only follow it with subtitles and how this is anyway similar to the British version is beyond me, well I suppose female detective derided by male colleagues
Downton Abbey Season two continues strong I've heard some people dont like this but we went back and watched season 1 again and enjoyed it even more.Characters are very strong in all cases

The Firm

The spin off show to Bones...about a chap with a talent for finding people...and it was...shit.

The characters were annoying, dull and the whole thing rather to slow.

Will give it another episode or two to see if it warms up.

You're in the wrong thread L...you want the UK Nova thread.

Yes, it's okay, quite good I thought, but it was pretty slow going for a chunk in the first episode....and not something for little kids either, it was pretty dark.

Alcatraz - agree with everyone else. It almost had promise but was very cheesy and yes they will keep us guessing about what's going on for years. I'd watch it again if there's nothing else on, but wouldn't seek it out.

New Girl, again I agree with everyone. I WANT to like it, but....meh.

Modern Family remains the best thing on TV to me...has me cracking up every time I manage to catch it.

Happy Endings - This is really growing on me. The first season, they tried to hail it as the new generation's "Friends". But once they stopped trying to be that, it's settled into something kinda silly but makes me chuckle quite a bit.

Anyone seen The Fades on BBC America? Saw the first episode last night and I quite liked it.

I ended up catching it off UK Nova when I heard a mate was involved, did the pre-production story boarding for it which looked pretty cool.

Anyway, it's a really weird series, wasn't to keen after the first episode as it was a little slow, which was why I didn't stick with it the first time around, but this time I did and I'm glad I did as it got really good and really dark...it gets much better in the second and third episode

So what is Sherlock? Is it based on the actual books as a period piece or a modern day version with new stories, or something in between?

It's based on the books but in the modern day. The 1st season is currently re-running on PBS ready for season 2 that has very recently aired in the UK.

It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Watson, I think it's done very well and highly entertaining. Certainly worth seeking out if you haven't seen it.

It's great, the old classic stories with a modern day twist, very cleverly done...Sherlock has a nicotine addiction for instance and all that malarky.

I'm going to take another look at the first season. I didn't care for it when it was first series was shown on UK TV...in fact I didn't even watch the last episode. I have enjoyed the second series...so I'll give it another go.
